thanks for looking,

i'm working on a house that has one inline fan in the loft.
my problem is that this fan has been ducted to serve both the utuility room and the downstairs WC.
So i need to be able to operate the fan from the light switch in each room, without also operating the light in the other room.
I'm sure i've done this before but cant for the life of me remember how!!!
any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks again

Rob :))

If it is currently working off of just one of these switches just use three core and earth between both switches you need. Need more info if this does'nt sound right
....
ok i just read it again.. you cannot have two way switching for the fan if the switch that is currently being used for the fan and the light are together you need a separate switch.

hi chris,

yes sorry didnt say this is a new build and the builder as installed flat ducting to the two rooms in one run from the loft, so i need to operate a single fan from both rooms without operating the light in the other room.................i think that makes sense!!:D

thanks again

Rob

This could be done with 2 contactors. Run Twin and earth from each of the light fittings connecting the switched live and neutral to the coil of each contactor separately. Then supply the fan on a seperate circuit from the consumer unit and daisy chain the live and switched live for the fan to the Normally Open contacts of both contactors. Sorted ;)

thx all,

yes i think i had to use relays before when i came across the same problem many years ago.
thankx for the memory jog!!

this site is such a help :))

again thanx to all that offered their help, i think i can sort it now.........i hope:D

Try using two double pole switches
Feed one side of each double pole switch in the relevant room
Loop over to the other side of the double pole switches with the feed
From one side of the outgoing dp switch feed the light, from the other side of the dp switch feed the fan
Do the same at at the other dp switch and it should operate each light with fan as you require
