Hey guys just looking for some advice on where next to take my learning. Im currently working as an improver (but doing sparks work) as im sure most people do! got my 2330 and 16th (upgrading)and just finishing off my nvq.
Im not sure what direction i want to go after this, but was looking into maybe design or something more involved. would the electrical hnc/hnd help me with this, does any1 no what the course covers, I would have to do nights ! if any 1 has any advice it would be much appreciated!
cheers daz!

Thanks for that link lenny gonna have a read through it now! when u say ur starting this in september do you mean that your a tutor? also with the step from 2330 to hnc/d, it would be from the nvq which is level three so i just thought the next step would be level 4 being hnc leading to hnd?

Level 3 NVQ is nowhere near the level 4 HNC, two totally different beasts. The HNC is a 2 year course whereas you could complete the NVQ in a couple of months or less.

I'm not a tutor, I've enrolled on the HNC course and start in september.

cheers durhamsparky i think thats where i might be ok then. As when i left school i done a couple of A levels as i wasnt sure what i wanted to do. 1 being in technology. since then i served an apprenticeship with a big fire/security company done my college and now finishing off nvq to finally get my ticket. does my background sound as if i could cope! im self employed and just dont want to waste time or money (but would love to get sponsered!)

Personally I would do my NVQ 3 NOW...as after November you will not be able to do it as a stand alone qual as it wont exist.

This will mean you are unable to obtain "approved electrician" grading from the JIB.

Or even "Electrician" grading. Definitely I think the NVQ should be the priority.

the course i was looking at is the btec foundation course which according to the lecturer is an hnc equivenent then a further 2 years at uni for the hnd or an extra for the honours degree been looking at some jobs for engineers that require the hnc qual and they offering 40 k plus a year :D

having second thoughts at the moment tho i know ill struggle with it so thinking about going for my A level maths and science 1st just to get them up to speed while doing my 2391-10 and 2391-20 then going for hnc so maybe get on it in a year or 2

just dont know

im a qualified electrician now got my l3 2330 and nvq3 and 17th and the pay just doesnt justify the qualifacations so want move into the engineering side want to be able look at a massive project and say yes i played a part in that its more work satisfaction im looking whilst able to make sure my fammily is financally secure

Well if I didn't have a middle name and was the father of modern physics then maybe.

You'll prorbably find most places wont allow you to go straight onto the HNC from 2330 anyway as they feel you wont pass and to be fair you probably wont. You'll have at least maths bridging courses to do and then without the ONC they still may refuse you entry.

At least with a better track record of courses under your belt they may look more favourably on you, particularly as hands on experience is also at a minimum with you.

Going from 2330 to HNC is like going from a morris marina to a challenger 2 with no training, IMO not do-able.

Here is a link to the Electrical and Electronic Engineering HNC content that I'm starting in September.

lenny
