Moderators, Please. It's really not helping people to have a suggested link starred out. Why do you do this?

Re: How are we supposed to talk products, tools and help people if we can't post link

Well I am now going to make an effort to find links to products on sponsors sites before I look elsewhere. I used to link to screwfux & tlc quite a bit.

After all the sponsors are the people that keep this place going.

Re: How are we supposed to talk products, tools and help people if we can't post link

By linking to Google, you improve the listings for the site linked to.

Why not PM a reminder to members who use links to products of non sponsors, that are also stocked by sponsors. You can also change the link, then there will be no conflict.

Incorrect. And a big misconception.

Only linking actually to the website, from your own (or some other) benefits the target website with any 'weight' from 'link love' that google gives. Linking to google, or just clicking a websites listing thousands of time after searching for it in google, or even sitting on a website page on idle, does nothing at all to improve or decrease your google SERPs (your google ranking).

As for the question. We don't want to guide people to who they buy from any more than we need to. If if it is down to the fact we've got the wrong sponsor, and there's a better firm out there, we eventually want to get them on board, not pee them off between now and then. We don't want to annoy members by telling them who they can link to (which is NOT what I have done or am doing here) but only stop the odd firm (it's the first time it's happened on here since April 2006 when we launched - it happens on tilersforums on a monthly basis as there are so many who are out to gain a few quid out of pretending to be a tiler etc) from being too heavily linked-to when there are other ways around either getting your fellow local sparky to use the local supplier you're using, or to show a fellow member a picture of what you mean.

I don't mean to micro-manage anything here and I certainly am not in it to milk the sponsorship or forum or it's members. No no no. But I want to make sure that where we're going long-term isn't somewhere that limits sponsorship opportunities as it is purely the unique way we run sponsorship that has allowed us to have so many related forums which has helped all of them many times over by cross-promoting them and having a port-of-call that 'feels like home' when you hit another forum one time.

I'll stop waffling now but I hope you see where I'm coming from guys. :)

Well there is certainly a few more sponsors on here now!

I just noticed that..... B&Q Fools & Appliances!?

B&Q? Really?

yeah... them Sheds we hate have a strangle hold on the site!!! down fall of a once great site... suppose money talks!!

They're not actually sponsors those. Too much or what? Those 'other advertisers' are sort of affiliate links. It doesn't really matter if you use them or click 'em to be honest but the unregistered readers still will and certainly the DIY warriors. But if you want them gone. Name which ones and I'll sort it out tomorrow (today rather! Still bloody doing it now!).

And they wont be talking on here. It's an indirect affiliate thing that we'd get a few pence every time 100 quid of stuff was sold. Though the autotrader thing and a couple of the others would be sound but perhaps wickes, b&q etc are too much?

Let's keep them for a week and then ask for peoples opinion. (im sitting on my fence on this one. It's a lovely panel one with trelis in the top, only ÂŁ9.99 per panel. Just click the orange box on the right to view it) :):):)

I don't like them!
I think you should pick the sponsors / companies that want to help the community and contribute..... we try our best to help out. :)
