The last couple of weeks , I have booked in jobs , I turn up at the agreed time in the agreed day but they Are out.
i ring them and they either dont answer or say they just had to pop out for a few hours and do I mind waiting...

now this wouldnt normally bother me , but seems to have happened a lot the past few weeks

should I be taking money up front of the job ? Or just accept it’s one of those things

Greedy

I drive 45 mins at an agreed time , the homeowner goes out shopping and asks me to hang around 3 hours for them to come back ...

I like my own company but sitting on their doorstep for 2-3 hours is a pretty far stretch imo

I don’t think asking for say 50% upfront is unreasonable ?

I don’t think you will get much joy with up front fees

I tend to call people when on route, if you can’t get them on the phone, leave a message along the lines of “you don’t seem to be available for our 10 o’clock appointment, please call me back so we can reschedule “

Often they will call straight back, “come straight round I just missed the call.”

If they ignore you, they wouldn’t have been in anyway

Many people won’t answer the phone if they don’t recognise the number, so it’s important to leave a voicemail
