how do you wire in a spotlight?

I want to start installing spotlights but I find the connectivity difficult as they don't come with ceiling roses. The only way I could think of is taking the switch wire to a junction box and then wiring the corresponding spotlights off it, can it be done this way? or what is the correct procedure?

You can't set up by yourself if you have no experience, and just spending a bit of time at college is not enough, you'll end up doing a cowboy job without knowing you're are doing something unsafe as there is no-one there to tell you.

no JIB apprenticeship. city and guilds all the way 2330 levels 2/3 and 17 edition, awaiting 2395 results

Anyways, to answer your question, yes you will require a junction box to terminate the loop in, out and switch wire. You can then take a twin to your 1st light, then 2nd and so on....

This must be a wind up. you've done an apprenticeship and don't now how to install a few lights?

I've never moaned about the lack of work, and some of these numpties NEVER think or engage their brains before they post!

Easiest way is to feed the switch and then loop your switched supply to each of the downlights.
But Meggerman's method is perfectly valid and usually required if replacing an existing loop in out fitting, but the junction box should be accessible for maintenance.
