I want to start installing spotlights but I find the connectivity difficult as they don't come with ceiling roses. The only way I could think of is taking the switch wire to a junction box and then wiring the corresponding spotlights off it, can it be done this way? or what is the correct procedure?

Are you a sparky or is this a DIY job?

If the manufacturers give you a recommendation on how they should be wired then I'd suggest that this would be the best option. What make and model number are the spotlight fittings?

is he chuff.

DIY section for it marvo...

into the DIY section with it...

Most sparks can look at something they're unfamiliar with and figure out a compliant way to install it. If you're struggling with the concept of spotlights then I think you should post up your location so one of us can come to do the job for you.

im a sparky, just want general understanding. the manufacturers will probably highlight how to install one not a dozen !

It is unusual for a sparky to not know the answer to this one, but not beyond the realm of possibility.

Perhaps you could let us know a little more about your electrical experience and qualifications.

As a sparky you will understand why we don't want to hand out advise when we could potentially drop ourselves in it if the advise was to be musunderstood.

so if you are...
then why ask rubbish about how to connect a light up?

oh, and incidentally...is this joint box you intend to use going to be accessable?

Yes im looking for advice in relation to my question, not for someone to come do the job for me.

That is fair enough, but based on your first post I am afraid the best advice that can be offered is to hire a suitably experienced electrician.

If you can enlighten us as to your knowledge and experience of electrical installation work then we can give you further advice best suited to you.

OP:

where do you intend installing these spot lights?...(i take it you mean downlights)

have you checked to see if they need to be fire rated?

are they fire rated?

not long, just finished college, couldn't get a job anywhere, so looking to set up by myself
You can't set up by yourself if you have no experience, and just spending a bit of time at college is not enough, you'll end up doing a cowboy job without knowing you're are doing something unsafe as there is no-one there to tell you.

im not supprised some of you lot moan about not getting work...your attitude stinks towards people asking for help. talk about chips on shoulders.
