hia everyone newbie to the forum but, ive used it for lots of info in the past. So big thanks


i mainly do domestic rewires in council properties (s**t work) just wondered how quick everybody thats into rewires can connect up a cu. i only use crabtree starbreaker. fastest iv done one is 12min 30 thats with 2 rcbo's and 7 mcbs, im not trying to show off just wondering how fast everyone does them. the bord is fixed onto the wall alrady too.

Well it does explain why I was in a friend`s mothers council flat the other day. Recently rewired. Sticky back trunking coming off ceiling and walls, fuseboard not labelled up, ring main split between 2 mcbs, light fittings loose, smoke detector in kitchen, immersion heater cable ( from isolator to tank) in 2.5 T/E, no blanks in CU, gas bond unattached and the list goes on. And all covered with an Installation Certificate which should have started withe the words A long time ago, in a land far far away.

A cu change isn't just about putting it on the wall and slapping the cables in what about all your dead tests, tail changes ect ect,

i have done loads of council rewires in orrible properties many years ago, when the firm i worked for got loads of em to do.

the workmanship never altered from that day to this - it was always done right. it was the spec that changed, with surface boxes, trunking across ceilings, and the like. the job was always neat, usually tidy! , and the unit always installed the way they should be.

i don't really know any other way. as much as i'd love you to come work for me and do units in that time, if it wasn't correctly and neatly installed and connected, you wouldn't last 5 mins - or possibly, in your case, 3 mins!

Me and another guy back in the eighties , on the cards for Southern Electric , were duing council re wires in the Hayes , Middx area , We were doing them in a day and a half , everything had to be spot on and neat and tidy , admitedly it's all repetition , we had a whole estate to do , I could not do this any more though , those days are long gone .

Apart from the probability that perhaps things aren't done to the proper standard you have to accept that when you come on making claims like that you're going to get a bit of ribbing mate. We're not smashing you, just poking fun (mostly) at you.
You're right with the Welsh thing but google translate might help
