good evening everyone, im just starting out and i wanna know how much i should be looking to earn an hour i understand everybody different but im close to london (well 15 miles ) all im after is a rough guide on pricing jobs i dont wanna be to cheap and i dont wanna be to dear, if no one minds can you give me some good advice and help me along, il be greatfull for all the tips thanks

Seriously when people come on here saying they charge ÂŁ40 an hour labour giving it large it makes me laugh. I don't know what goes on down south but up here you're looking at ÂŁ140-ÂŁ160 day rate.

I make my money on small jobs like a ten minute fan swop the other day. I was there 5 mins. Replaced fan ÂŁ110. Job done.

There's some irony there.Methinks i'll move up north if people are prepared to pay ÂŁ110 for 5 mins work.

I did earn ÂŁ800 for one days work in London once but i'm not expecting it to happen again !!

Basically what I am trying to get at is....when you are doing big jobs for contractors or a rewire for a customer the bigger the job the less they want to pay. Therefore, when I have quoted 160 day rate for each operative. I get told its too expensive.

Whereas if I go to a fault and rectify it they are more than happy to cough up a decent wage. Its funny how it all works.

Basically most folk (contractors) want it done for next to nothing and others who have faults just pay.

Im charging ÂŁ200 per day in London, + room as i'm not form London , its a one off job but I thought it was a fair price.

Back in Liverpool , I never ever give a P/H price, people dont know how long things take to do, so price it right and you can do ok, and they are always welcome to get other quotes.

I find having the right gear speeds things up , Impact drill, good cordless, good sds cordless, 18v cordless skilly set to 18mm depth, so to never hit pipes etc , Wago's

Cheers

That is why i tend not to work for 'contractors' / builders as my experience is pretty much as yours.Contractors tend to cut their own price to 'win' a contract and then carve up the sub contractors to get their profits.

Nowadays i am winding down a bit so just work for a couple of regular clients (estate agents) and a large nursing home and the rest of the time do a bit of jobbing work and the occasional rewire.Fault finding is good as it gets people up and running again so mostly they are happy to pay.

If your self employed you have to average all these things out over the year and then get a good Accountant to do your self assessment forms.

Most self employed sparks down this way (south east inner m25 area) will be lucky to clear around ÂŁ20K per annum once you've paid all your costs.

I get some weeks when i can earn a grand and the next week i might make ÂŁ20.Thats how it goes.
