Hello, I am a competent electrician in home wiring and have been working in home wiring abroad for the last 12 years, now im back in the UK looking for work I will need to pass an exam to get a qualified electrician certificate? how can I get the qualification without going into a training program?

thanks

Frankly, i've not heard anything so ridiculous in a long time. It would be exactly the same for a UK 14 year experienced electrician, thinking they can go to Holland, sit an exam and go off out into peoples houses undertaking electrical installations without any knowledge of the Dutch regulations/requirements. ...Just plain Daft!!!

Let him take what ever exam he needs to take, let him find out for himself and the loss of his exam fee. Might just listen to what's been told to him then, ... but maybe not, it'll be a conspiracy then, ...against him!! lol!!!

My bet would on a failure of the secondary school exams we took E54. Take away his calculator and give him a slide rule, then watch the puzzled look.

its holland btw and I will pass any test in electrical and also electronics. thx for all the weird replies, looks like we have some angry electricians on this forum

If you have Dutch qualifications, as we are all in the EU, you can get a transfer of qualifications,
and someone in an office will say what your level of electrician you will be graded at.
However you will still be required to sit a course to quallifiy you to interpret the 17th edition regulations

In addition with the lasted ammenment to the regs as of the new year you will have to be assessed as NVQ Level 3 to be accepted onto a part P.

do you have the actual Dutch qualifications to hand, so that they can be assessed?

I found what I was looking for on another forum, and yes it is possible to just sit the exam after 12 years exp eazy peazy

Good luck.

However before you get too excited, may I politely suggest you call Elecsa, Napit and NICEIC and check their "requirements" for entry if you are planning on doing domestic work.

Unbloodybelievable. I wonder if the RAF would let me service a tornado. I've always fancied it, no airframe or avionics experience but I know I can do it.
You believe me don't you guys?

but he might just be one of the wonder kinde left over after the war who knows it.he did ask a question and there are places where you can sit the exam .so lets wait and see if he passes he'll soon be back on. also i was thrown out of diynot 3 times thats a weird forum
