Hi guys and gals, need some advice for my son, he left school at 16 and started an Apprentiship to be an Electrician ( Good lad lol), he has completed many courses with the company he was with ie 2330 level 3 etc but was working towards his AM2 with only 4 months left of training when he got dismissed through a lot of personal reasons going on at home with myself and ex partner, he is 21 in december and has gone the right route to be an electrician ie serving an apprenticeship, this is all different from when i did it, what do you think the best route is for him now as he is finding it hard to get an interview with employers because of being dismissed ?, i know its easy to say because hes my son but he is a good grafter and thoroughly enjoys the job.

hoping you can help

Well the plot thickens a bit as he has been working off and on with his ex college tutor who always does electrical contracting which i thought would be a brilliant recommendation out of all the apprentices he could have taken , but he is very unreliable where my son sits home waiting for him and he turns up whenever he wants or not all somedays, i just dont want him to lose heart through what i see as being caused by my personnal situation, he has worked hard and is very good hands on. i was thinking the same electro but as AM says i want him to finish it the right way

That's the kind of character I'm talking about. If he can put up with that in short term to see him over the finishing line.......as long as this bloke signs his papers then job's a good en???

Many thanks for your help guys gonna look into paying for i know hes my son but hes got a fair bit of experience as i said earlier and it would be a shame for the industry to loose it, hes done transformers and all sorts of other stuff which i never got a look in at when i was training 25 years ago it was just house bashing all the time

rally,we probably need the full facts if you want to give them, sounds like your son has been doing guvy work with his college tutor, while nothing wrong with that might explain why the tutor isnt willing to go out of his way to help

nothing to hide AM he was late a few times and his head was all over the place for a while as hes lived with me since he was 13 and i have made a few wrong decisions in life so it hasnt been easy for him, but as you know in this climate employers can pick and choose as they like even though his work was always excellent and the said company has a bad rep of dismissing people without a whim locally, his tutor has said he wants to help but i think he is just using my son as cheap labour as he puts him on a job and leaves him to it while he goes and does another one so he doesnt seem concerned with his work, i think its a sign of the times

weve all made wrong decisions,im not judging man, its sounds complicated, another route could be,get the yellow pages list all spark co's in the area, tell your son to get shirt and tie on,a copy of his cv to date and any pictures of work he's done and go knocking on doors, tell the truth and make an impression..hope all goes well..

that way of going over the finishing is like joining the race at the last mile..steer your son on the right path rally

A more accurate analogy Alarm man would be "that way of going over the finishing line is like running 24 miles of a marathon, pulling up with an injury and limping the last 2 miles". It's not ideal granted but if he's ready, It'll all come out in his AM2 if he's up to standard.
