The company I sub to are dead , have 2 jobs booked in both Housing association ,no genuine enquiries for 3 weeks now
I've been talking to several of our recent customers and they all have the same fear that if the gov should win the supreme court appeal then they might lose the tarriff retrospectively, and some also said that they wouldn't advise any friends to go ahead as it is so uncertain as to what will happen
So in my view with this kind of uncertainty and lack of confidence in the tarriff system amongst potential clients even with price drops its going to be a very difficult sell for the quality installers , I also think that with the recent mad rush in November ,not so much before March the quality of lots of these installs all over was poor and this will have a negative effect , I've been asked to go to a few other installers jobs now to give an opinion on whether or not the job was done properly
The best one was a console job 4000tl 16 sanyo 250's literally the other side of the hedge to our job with the same equipment
we had quoted for this customer earlier as i've done 5 in the same road , but by the time he'd decided we were booked up.
we installed at the same time systems were commissioned on the same day ,2 weeks later he rings me
here's how the 2 compared
our job
28m 10mm swa trenched
meter installed next to inverter
modules all bonded and earthed to rod
fitted and commissioned works as expected
customer happy
Their job
90 metres of 6.0mm swa , 8 metres of 6.0mm T&E inside
circuit on 50A Mcb gen meter in house no isolator at mains position
no bonding to modules at all (TL)
oversized console (Renusol 4.2)for the panels
system turned off minutes after turning on and this happened every 5mins after restarting
no main equipotential bonding carried out on property
certificate (with numerous other errors) says otherwise
In the first month their system had done less than a third of our customers and the meter showed less than that and lagged the inverter display by 22 kwh .
Incidently they got around the volt drop issue by ringing the Dno and getting permission to change the parameters
This type of installer will for the short term at least will be competing for the same jobs as us and will probably win some and bodge them equally as well , then word gets around and joe public thinks Pv is nothing but trouble
I don't think its the end of pv but things are going to get a lot worse before they get better for us installers.
