D

David.

hey fellas,

whats this course all about???

BTEC Advanced Diploma in Electrical Installation its done through ICS??

Im at college 1 day a week doing a BTEC NC in Electrical/Electronics but this ICS course thing sounds better by been an ADVANCED DIPLOMA etc etc
Am i wasting my time at college doing what im doing should i do this ICS one? Are the prospects the same between the 2 courses like been able to do HNC or more. I just feel i'd be able to do the ICS course a lot quicker than 1 day a week.

If the ICS course is as good as it is then why do you not need very good previous qualifications to do it?? "You must also be educated to at least GCSE standard D-G or hold an NVQ at level 1, or a GNVQ Foundation Certificate"

cheers guys :)

They have too mate, im pretty sure it fulfills the technical certificate requirement. I was reading the other day, that jib only require 2330 level 3 not level 2 as well. but because you cant do level 3 without level 2 you end up having to do both..... :(

Can you get a Jib card with BTEC Course and NVQ Level 3 Will the Jib reconise this qualification

They'll class you as a labourer, :(
we had a subbie do a bit of work for us, JIB classed him as labourer.
He had 2382, 2391, 2356 (NVQ) and BTEC which was sold to him as a long distance version of 2330

Sorry lads but there is just too many of these distance learning etc courses for employers and the JIB/SJIB to keep up with so if you want to become a fully qualified and respected electrician then you really have to phone the JIB/SJIB and do exactly what they say! Otherwise you could be p****ng your money against the wall!!! Nobody can blame sparks/mobs or the JIB/SJIB for having suspicions about all these "easy" and "cheap" ways of becoming a spark, because there is simply not the will or the time to check and cross check guys with these so-called qualifications! So sorry lads you really should make that 5 minute phone call and save yourself all the heartache!!!

????? why did he get graded as a labourer?????

I'm not really sure, he hasn't done any work with us for ages so I'm not in a position to ask.
He was insistent that they just wouldn't accept the BTEC, I thought it might be more to do with he hadn't served an apprenticeship just did distance learning

hi chaps...

I HAVE DONE THAT COURSE!!!!! BTEC ADVANCED DIPLOMA LEVEL 3 ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION

its a level 3 qual and although it says no previous knowledge needed it would help drastically if you did have at least 17th and some site knowledge it is the 2330 equivilant but by BTEC!!

it took me 17 months to complete.

im using it to allow me to do the HNC electrical Engineering which is a level 5 qual, just need to do the bridging maths course.

i would recommend it to any one but it is hard and you need to have time to put into it..!! failing that i have my Course work and i got two Merits and two Passes!!! :)

Hi Durham Sparky, just wondering if you have started your HNC yet and if the ICS course in Electrical Installation was accepted by the college/company?
I currently work as a draughtsman for an electrical company, although have little electrical knowledge (apart from the standard info i have picked up on a daily basis) and am looking at doing exactly the same thing as you, the ICS course followed by a HNC. I don't think my boss would really be happy to let me have 1 day a week off for college over the next few years, and i don't really need to learn the practical, i am only really interested in gaining the knowledge of the theory side.

any info will be appreciated

Just after a bit of advice with regards the ICS BTEC level 3 Electrical Installation course? I have been considering taking it on but I am wondering if its worth me doing as I already have a HNC electrical/electronic engineering qualification which I completed as part of my apprenticeship. Just looking for another string to my bow so to speak! Any advice would be greatly welcomed.

I have done this course, am awaiting my final grade. I wont be getting a certificate though due to a problem with my edexcel registration...... 2 years wasted, but I did gain the knowledge which is the point.

look at these website for help on nortons and thevenin's:

Norton's Theorem : DC NETWORK ANALYSIS

Thevenin's Theorem : DC NETWORK ANALYSIS

i got a distinction in all marked subjects, and my Tutor recon I will get in Electrical Principals as well.

PM me if you need more help.
