Good evening gentlemen i been asked to put switched fused spur in the airing cupboard for a shower pump the customer says the plumber says just tag it on to the immersion ! What's everybody's take on this ?

I agree with you guys, a spur of the immersion is not the best route but if no other option then I can see why someone may do it........although I think I could always find a better option than the one being discussed lol

I'm sure there is a reg, Its rooted in the "no diversity" thing cos its a kettle isn't it, on for hours at a time.

Can also see why but theres usually a (more awkward) solution. Seen allsorts tagged on immersions! 2x 500w security lights!

When I install shower pumps if I can get a new dedicated circuit in then I will, If a new circuit is not an option can`t see a problem with a spur off the ring or Immersion circuit if no existing RCD protection and its required could use a fused rcd spur like a powerbreaker.

The shower pump can be fused down to 3 amps from the lighting ring with an FCU. It's usually easy to come through the top of the airing cupboard to the lighting loop.
Alternatively I've found that there's sometimes an old shower cable from the CU in the bathroom. Again fused down to 3amps with an FCU to the flex from the pump.

The rcd spur being fitted is probably because there wasn't rcd protection of that supply.
