innacessible joints

B

brightspark2010

if a joint is to be made under a floor wich is going to be deemed innaccessible can through crimping with the approriate tool in a cable clamped and mounted chocbox be the method of the join with normal solid core pvc/pvc twin and earth i have heard this is not acceptable any ideas:confused:

526.3(v) specifies: A joint forming part of the equipment complying with the appropriate product standard. An appropriate standard being BS EN 60998, wagos are compliant with BS EN 60998-1. Kinda depends how you read equipment I guess.
As far as I'm aware that standard applies to junction boxes or enclosures.
Are junction boxes or enclosures allowed by BS7671 to be inaccessible?
Here is a link to some information regarding Wago's and the particular BS7671 Regulations that they the manufacturer claim they satisfy.
As you can see, there is no mention of Regulation 526.3:

What about 521.8.3 as wagos are also compliant to BS EN 60670-22. Then we can join all circuits in the house together. :D

On a more serious note, anyone know if the latest revisions have addressed any of this?

I am going to give a very non convincing argument for not using push fit connections, wagos helicons or any other crap idea :D

I dont trust their integrity
I dont trust their current carrying capability
I dont like using things I dont trust,so I wont,so there :)

hmmmmm. you could also knoct the tried and tested ashley screw terminal boxes.

1. the screws fall out into a sea of insulation, never to be seen again.

2. when you pinch a screw from another box ( assuming you've got one ) it goes in cross-threaded.

3. that last bit of force with the screwdriver to make sure it's tight splits the plastic pillar

4. when all is tickety -boo, you can't find the lid for love nor money,( until you kneel on it )

Got a sample pack of them wagos today, mucho impressed n think might move onto these.using neweys connectors just now which r the best I've come across for a while.the wagobox is made by contactum who call it a block box I think .also quite well thought out

Calm down man its just a push connector lol Shhhh dont tel any one i do tooo lol oh you can use the ashley maintainance free junction boxes who incedently are made by non other than yes you guessed it WAGO yeeeee lol

A well made crimp connection, using a decent crimping tool and decent crimps, be it solid or stranded is as good as anything out there on the market. I have nothing against Wago's or Helicon's, they are good connectors. All have there place in the industry. I personally wouldn't use Wago's in a replacement consumer unit to extend conductors, they would look at best amateurist, whereas a good in-line crimp with heat shrink, would look a far more professional job.

indeed we agree again :)

in a CU, i agree. the crimp connectors are best, even if only because they are an in line connector. would you use heat shrink in a CU , though? as the connection is within an enclosure, no need for secondary insulation. wagos in enclosures for lighting under floors, though, i think is the way forward. ( that is of course if you are unable to bring all joints within an accessory/switch, back to the neutrals in switches LOL.)

would never through crimp in a DB

We rarely use plastic CUs on our projects, and i prefer the use of bare in line crimp connectors with a heat shrink over, or on occasions those that come with heat shrink pre-attached.
On the bare type, you can clearly see the conductors deformed within the crimp ferrule, thus ensuring a good and permanent connection...

I see Wago's good for connections made in connection boxes and the like, or where you would expect to see some form of connection of cables.....

good heaven agree again !!

would have clicked like, but decided to make a comment LIKE!

what are these wago's everyone keeps mentioing?

Give WAGO a shout and they will send you out a sample pack........

Awesome invention.......they also supply maintenance free enclosures (posh box with cable grip) to put them in if inaccessible.

Soooooo fast to work with........

The lever arm ones are great for temp links when testing, or doing your fig of eight for R1+R2 on a ring main

Give 'em a go..... in the words of 'Tony the Tiger', "They're grrrreat!":cool::cool:
