Hi Dave, when i came up on a similar job, I used a surface mounted, double back box and extended all the circuits using connector blocks. Then just put a blanking plate over the top so all live conductors were enclosed and accessible. Very neat aswell. The NIC man thought it was a good idea too.

Blimey, i bet that was a squeeze!
 
Crimps are a mechanical joint (last forever) JB's should be screwed to a surface and accessable and cables clipped upto it (loft or just above DB allowed, underfloor no longer permissable as classed as non accessable)

Trunking and crimps is the way
 
thats relly rough junction boxes would b the choice before them
How did you work that out then,seeing as the original CU is in a cupboard above the front door:cool:What would you rather see,loads of J/Bs with cables dangling or a bit of white trunking hiding them all.My preference mate and it looks much neater;)

crimps in trunking every time since it looks neat if the trunking fits nicely and is a maintenance free joint. no point introducing more maint than is necessary.

i do appologise i have just bin brought up as not to use junction boxes or through crimps as lads at our firm gotsacked for using these

[ElectriciansForums.net] Installing new consumer unit. Cables too short.check this out ! this was right in a kitchen cupboard i had to bend right down and squeese into the cupboard just to reach it ! then replace with new cu at easy to reach place.
Had cramp 52 times as not much room and back/arms were killing me ! glad its all done now !

Yer m8 banged head 5 times as well and had to use small stumpy screwdrivers as not enough room ! pitty the worktop was grouted right in and even kitchen sockets were ! id love to meet the kitchen fitter seems that all 28 houses in the street have the same ! SOD THAT !
