Live and Neutral on one clip earth on the other for anything including the little red neon lights that you can remove should do the trick.

Chris

Forgot to mention if SELV or PELV use 250 volts not 500 volts

Chris[/QUOTE

thought because there are transformers which cannot be removed i was testing at 250v

Hi egster71, beg to differ with you but this is not a new installation, the lights are on an existing installation and as such CAN have a limitation on the cert:D
Maybe it's just NICEIC then. A consumer unit should be tested as if it's a new installation. Say the wiring's 20 years old and you change the board then the chances are it'll not be tested for another 20 years!!!

Up to you of course but if at all possible I'll always do it!

Hi egster71, like I said "test phase to cpc, then neutral to cpc, on your test cert put "lim" in the phase to neutral box and say in the limitations box that you have tested to regulation 612.3.3, this wil cover you, it is only a limitation on the ir test and has been mentioned on the report, job done. Look up reg 612.3.3 its fine and dandy !.I also agree that a new installation will not under "normal circumstances" have any limitations, normal circumstances being the operative word, cheers no sarcasm intended
Regards Matt Thornton

612.3.3 Says Where the circuit includes electronic devices which are likely to influence the results or be damaged, only a measurment between the live conductors connected together and the earthing arrangement shall be made.

So put live and neutral on one clip, cpc on the other and test. @ 250v Correct or not?

Pardon my ignorance but is the section which says line/line not for 3 phase which i will not deal with as a domestic installer. I know we class neutral as a line but this section specifies line/neutral ,line/earth, neutral earth.

Line/Line is applicable in domestic single phase................2 way lighting circuits:rolleyes:

Do you not do insulation resistance at the Cu where on lighting you should just have live neutral cpc. making sure all switches are on would be doing the return path from switch to light.

Check the clearance between the back panel and/or terminal cover that you've removed. Look for small burn marks.
