Recently I had a job where I had to cut a 6mm and a 2.5mm live cable and terminate into a JB. I had to strip the cable with an insulated stanly, and then separate the wires and terminate each one.

I was just wondering if there is a tool that would do this cutting job without having to separate the cables? Something like sharp ceramic snips or something of the sort that would not conduct the electricity and would allow to cut directly through a live cable?

TIA

Why are you being so harsh and abrupt with me and calling me names? What's wrong with you?

The job i worked on is a 3 bedroom house, and the property below is a hairdressers (That is now out of business and has shutters on it) has incoming 6mm and 2.5mm cables that are live and needed to be deadened and terminated. The 2 flats below are going to be occopied in 3 weeks and the landlord of the the flats cannot get in touch with the owner of the below defunct barber shop where there supposed CU is.

You should THINK the obvious before spouting stupid comments and insults, which just shows your complete ignorance and stupidity.

Using normal cutters would have deadened it!

(Potentially dangerous kids!)

i think your a chuffin dummy for wanting to work live cables....

The problem arises from time to time. I worked for EGsys for 3 years and 75% of my jobs were on live wiring. They ALL had to be cut, seperate, terminate. And all we had was PVC gloves and an insulated stanly. So you are the dummy who thinks that this is a unique problem. What the hell are you doing on this forum?

Oh, I forgot.... it's your job to be harsh and ignorant. Nothing more.

They have been thinking the obvious, eg, you ''DON'T'' try and cut into live cables!! That not being ignorant or stupid at all!! If you couldn't gain access to isolate these cables, so be it, not your problem, come back when the client does get access!! You had no idea what protective device if any, was supplying those cables!!

It wouldn't matter if such an insulated cutting tool was available, the action of cutting across a live cable could easily deform the conductors into making contact with each other, probably sending molten copper into your face and eyes!!

So i guess the only stupid one here is yourself!! Always better to be Safe than Sorry at work!!

If you've not found what you want in 3 years, why ask now?

Did you see that I said I SEPARATED the cables before cutting? Taking the PVC outer sheath off, then separating the cores and cutting each, individualy, then terminating them?

Thank you for the speedy response! Have seen them on top of plaster in steel conduit before but guess it's not a common desire to have wires...
