Ive followed 2 previous electricians into a property, they have had to cover me whilst my passes are sorted out and so I am doing what they were doing for the time being.

What I am concerned about is this. Theres a kitched ring and on the last double socket of that circuit is another piece of cable which is either 1mm or 1.5mm sq which runs up to where an expeeair extracto fan is going to be fitted. I could have just wired it uptoday but I wasnt sure if you could do that. Im sure ive read on here that this is not a good idea but Im probably wrong. either way I just wanted to check and seeing as this place is full of electricians I thought it was a good palce to ask such a thing.

No, take the 1.5 away from socket
Add a 2.5 from socket to a spur for the fan
Put 1.5 in this spur.
Connect up three 2.5s in socket
Connect 2.5 in feed of spur
Connect 1.5 in load of spur
Change fuse from 13a to 5a
Screw back accessories
Fit fan
Connect fan
Put tools in box/ bag
close front door
Put tools in dustbin
Get in company van and take it to boss
Get on bus
Go home
Look on interweb device for new job.

so here it is

sorry I got confussed earlier and misunderstood that the fan will be fussed at either 3/5 a i got my wires crossed and thought they did fcu rated at these

Mate, with all due respect, you can't keep relying on a forum to get you out the c**p all of the time. Buy yourself the regs book and the osg and read. If your unsure, ask a sparkie onsite, you wont look an idiot infact quite the opposite, if you went ahead and did it wrong thats when you look bad, or even worse... kill someone. If you dont know what your doing, dont do it.

It's really not that hard to understand Lofty, you have it right on that drawing but replace the fuse within the FCU from a 13amp to a 5amp.
From now on i think it would be a good idea to buy yourself the Brian Scadden book on 17th edition Electrical installation guide, read up and perhaps retake your test in this qualification - either that or get some proper supervised experience.

Labour didn't help with Part P legislation and all the incompetent persons schemes that they created which allowed the boom in quick training companies

The biggest demise has only occurred in the last 10 years the quick courses put paid to any meaningful apprenticeships as you can't complete an apprenticeship in 5 weeks but you can get sufficient certs to be competent

At least the skill centres of Thatchers era produced some reasonable sparks that didn't need to resort to the internet to solve all the problems they came across but then again they didn't have the internet available to them in the 80's

Thatcherism killed apprentiships in the late 1980s, sub contract labour (subbies) were introduced and the whole apprentiship system collapsed, companies hired subbies for short term work and kept their staff levels low which in turn stopped them committing to long term employment and the end of the trade as we once knew it, this intern has now created short term courses and unskilled persons parading as sparks due to qualifications they themselves have paid for and usually done on evenings, no site experience and more people like the OP here, What has happened in the last 10 years is as bad, but my original point is right IMO, prove otherwise, I'm listening.

you say that with the qualifications, its not easy either for one simple reason

joe public believe you can go to college and become an electrician then just do a year to become an electrician.

i did the 2330 lvl2+3 at college, no site experience though but ive learnt a lot in the last year and am doing a proper apprenticeship without block/day release to go college. personally i prefer it
