Roger, if someone forcibly displaced the people in Kent backed by 2 very big and powerful armies because of what an old book said would you say 50 years later that they had a right to be there?
If the then occupying people allowed the people of Kent to live on a patch of land which would be bit by bit taken away from them would you say this was acceptable?
If the newcomers decided that the people of Kent could not control their own borders or have the right to decide what they can and cannot do, where they can and cannot go within that land allocated to them, how would you feel?
Suppose the Kentish people felt aggrieved at their treatment and started throwing rocks at the newcomers which resulted in several of them being shot do you think it's expected that the dispute would escalate especially when the newcomers are armed to the teeth by their big brother overseas and are not scared to use the weaponry supplied to them.
I also support a 2 state solution because I don't think the Israelis will voluntarily move but I can't accept the killing of children by nail bombs (how they are supposed to collapse a tunnel I have no idea) or the calls by an Israeli politician for all Palestinian mothers to be killed together with their little snakes.
Well Kents are only southerners Trev, now if it was the Democratic Republic of South Shields we are talking about I would be behind you all the way lol.
Seriously, You are right there is no doubt the Palestine/Israel issue has been handled badly right from the off, I can't imagine how things must be for the people living there under such atrocious conditions, more on the Palestinian side than the Israeli, but Israel was created legally and they have a right to be there, where else would they go? . If I remember my history correctly the Jews lived in Palestine for thousands of years and they were falling out even then, which was why the Jewish state was created in an effort to separate them, along with the wave of guilt that the world was feeling over the Holocaust. In this respect Israel is the Kent of your scenario, a small enclave surrounded by enemies, if Kent had the weapons, would they fight back? Israel are strong because they have had to be. Yes atrocity's have been committed by both sides over the years, there has been as much --- as there has tat, I don't really want to get into a historical debate about who did what to who first, It's just a minefield and well out of control but I thought both sides had a chance to reach a settlement until Hamas entered the picture.
I hadn't heard about the nail bombs and little snakes, terrible, there is so much spin coming across from both sides it's hard to pick out the truth.
