Just met a fella on site who has a grade card and a NVQ level 3 and he has never done any electrical work ever on site in his life. He did a 6 week course which cost 6k and at the end they gave him a grade card with "Electric" written on it in bold red, he is now going to apply for his gold card. He walked onto a site Monday with a pair of boots on and this card and admitted straight away he knew nothing at all about installation work but felt he was qualified, he is a really nice fella by the way, however regardless of that, the fact is he is on a large commercial site sent to install electrical installation work without any site experience at all and possible access to a gold card after 6 weeks at college disturbed me--------------------------thoughts everyone?

It is a large site with a few companies working on various projects there, an electrical contractor has employed him through an agency yes, the issue is how he got a level 3 without any experience, I was astonished.

Sign of the times that is. Absolutely bonkers. The company and agency clearly haven't vetted him in anyway. It's an accident waiting to happen. As for how he got the level 3 is beyond me. Must be purely theory and class based no site evidence required anymore.

@MDJ

I take it you didn't take him on.
Whoever did, will either quickly find he's incompetent and send him away, and complain to the agency; or they just want some cheap labour for a while.
No not me, they are treating him as a mate I believe at the moment, the fact he is applying for a gold card pretty much suprised me, and the NVQ bit just proves how worthless that qualification is.

How odd his card says 'Electric' on it.

Mike are you sure it didn't say Electric token meter card.!!!

Has he got an NVQ level 3 or a level 3 technical certificate? Does he realise there's a difference or was he just sat in front of a series of exam papers to regurgitate the information he was just given, then presented with some certificates, one of which had 'level 3' on it?
