sparkz

Just been graded as a labourer. Iv got all parts of 16th edition up to level 3 and have AM1. I sent all my certificates and proof what i have achieved. Iv studied 3 years full time at college and didnt do my NVQ3 because i was not a day release scheme. Will i have to do 17th edition to gain NVQ3?

appreciate your help

The JIB Would not grade you as an electrician with just NVQ Level 3, I think you need:

2330 Level 3
AM2
NVQ Level 3
And maybe the 17th edition

If someone has been given a jib electrician grade with just an NVQ level 3, There has been a mistake somewhere and needs to be rectified! I love the JIB grading system for up and coming sparks, it divides the useless one who can't be arsed to finish off the NVQ level 3 in their own time to the ones who work hard and are serious about becoming an electrician and finish it!

The NVQ Level 3 was the hardest part of my apprenticeship.

Hopefully along the course off however many years it takes me to learn how to be a spark ill get a JIB card.. but in your NVQ what do you have to do? Im currently on my Lv2 2330 course.

Kieran94.... I will all be explained by the college when you come on to doing your Level 3. Its not hard, just time comsuming and you need to be able to explain all type of work you will come across as an electrician! When you come to do it.... Just graft away and get it done, you will be respected and taken a lot more seriously by other sparks from my past experiences.

Penance.... I said the NVQ level 3 was good for up and coming sparks, also the JIB state in their grading section that you will be graded as an electrician if you have the 2360 Parts 1,2 Have a look....

JIB Grading Definitions - Electrician Grade

I've always seen this JIB as a farce. The people with NVQ3 will always argue they are fully qualified and others without it aren't. If you want to work on sites go JIB. It is for that only. Domestic off-site, the NVQ3 alone would not allow you to install or test, unsupervised, without Part P or a scheme. So therefore you are not domestic approved. It works both ways...

I must ask the question. Are a lot of the people on here with improver or trainee cards, that they are not happy with, still going on sites anyway? Do you just need a card to get on site and then work and then paid as a spark? Is it actually important to have the electricians grade?

They probably are mate but they are picking up ÂŁ11 instead of ÂŁ16. The whole thing needs reviewing because good sparks are getting bad pay due to not having a qualification that in other areas of electrical installation isn't needed to practise as a fully qualified electrician

But surely if these/you guys are on-site you are contracted to JIB companies. If these companies need the skills they can sponsor or sign to say you are approved/ or otherwise electricians.

Wonder what I’d get rated as

C&G Electrical Technicians (1976)
EITB J02
EITB J22
17th edition
+ Dozens of specialist training certs.
Over the years I’ve redesigned the control of 3 complete process plants

I’d probably be classed as a labourer as well

Probably would as you haven't got an NVQ (Not Very Qualified)

What gets me is the 17th doesn’t carry any weight in the industries I’ve worked in.
Some of the reg’s you’d be laughed out of the workshop for suggesting.
Earthing under M&Q reg’s is strict, but you’d never run a CPC along side a SWA. Large SWA’s had 1 over sized copper strand to every 3 steel armours. Making them off was an art.

Don't mock the EITB as I put this forward as part of my grading and eventually got JIB Technicians grade. I had to start in the mines through the EITB.
Also in the mines they had a very, and I mean very, short spurt where they started to run seperate CPC, because I had this job as an apprentice, it lasted for about 3 months before common sense prevailed.
I'll say this again do a lot of the middle to older guys with good contacts really need anything other than a card to get on-site? This subject comes up so often and it seems more related to vanity. As far as I've seen in my work life qualifications and experience are important, but more important is "who you know".
And is making off large SWA brass ends and scotchcast joints still a art and if so how do you get back into it?!!!!!!

Ha the JIB are a standing joke, you could be the chief engineer of the world but without the almighty NVQÂŁ your nothing, oh well I guess its our own fault the industry does seem to support them!
