Kitchen fitter - wired in cooker &

E

Electricalserv

Everything blown. Quite a distance away from me don't know whether to do the job????

Old wylex rewirable....

What you guys think? Blown the main fuse? I dread to think how they have wired it in....Apparently all they did was disconnect cooker as worktops needed to go in and re-connected it and boom everything is out!

I think your all tarnishing all kitchen fitters with the same brush here.
Im not sticking up for focus he mite be a right bodging bstard, BUT!
Not every kitchen ever fitted needs a sparky to come out and fix a kitchen fitters bodges!
There are alot of fitters out there doing whatever they like FACT.
There are alot that do it properly. Far more that dont.
Kitchen fitting isnt regulated at all like us sparkys.
Any Clever person with a chopsaw and a box of self tappers is a kitchen fitter!
Moan over.

Well either way, the original post was about a fault caused after a kitchen fitter of some sort fitted a work top, unfortunately we will not know the outcome of the OP.

Ahh thanks, at least I know people are calling an abbreviated kitchen fitter!

and im pleased to here that!!

not got problem with defined cope lads doing proper jobs!! its when they start encroaching on im Part P me so i can do a rewire!!

Full of respect for you Durhamsparky, seen some of your posts/replies and your probably 10x better sparky than me ,but just saying what I do in kitchens is no bodge job and there are many kitchen fitters out there doing a good job too..

I've been in the trade 30yrs...and can hand on heart say that the next electrical installation I see done properly by a kitchen fitter will be the first.
There is not a kitchen fitter on the planet that understands a ring circuit....I'ts not rocket science,it's basically a loop of cable, but keeping that loop continuous is totally beyond any kitchen fitter.....I've got a lot of respect for kitchen fitters, but only when they are fitting kitchens.

I'll try and find out what went on. Somebody gave my number to a kitchen fitter/plasterer/bricklayer/niceic domestic installer.(you know the type jack of all master of none). Anyway I've been nothing but inundated with calls for consultancy and problems in kitchens ever since. The job went to him first who passed it on 2 me (seems to be happening very frequently, is he really niceic?) who knows. Anyway it was he who told him to go and get a main fuse as I had said it may be the case I'd everything is off and it's an old 3036 board but would need to investigate. Anyway he took the bull by the horns and went on that guess. Haven't heard back since. Hope he's ok (y)

Have a eureka moment, come and have a look at my work I will be your first !!!!!!!

I'm talking 60k + per kitchen ,I work for millionaires !

I work for pensioners and peanuts
The quality of the work will also be comparable to any that I would do for the loaded rascals :p

Whats that Shania twain song (I work for millionaires )
That dont impress me much :)

Remember when comparing trades
Domestic electrical installation is but a fraction of the remit of an electrician
Dont confuse domestic installer with Electrican
There are electricians who carry out domestic and there are non electricians who somehow or other are also permitted to carry out domestic installation

I'll have to decline your gracious invitation as my sock drawer needs sorting out and there's some paint I need to watch drying....;)

(But ok........I'll take your word for it though!)

Can I just say that I am 50 years of age and been in the building trade since leaving school,I have been on countless installations where electrians have wired up kitchens/bathrooms studys etc and never done any pre testing inpecting or testing after their work ,their test equipment never sees the light of day assuming they've got some ,are they still better than a kitchen fitter ????.

They are obviously cowboys not electricians.

@ Electricalserv, it would be interesting to know what caused the fault especially if main fuse was blown.

Focusphil

Its not worth trying to defend one trade against another
We are all manual trades and in comparison to artistic craftsmen of old and some obscure trades today,we are all just modern-materials bash it together artisans

Actual trade skills, whether woodworking or electrics or many others, declined many moons ago

Multi skilling is definitely the future, allthough it is regrettable in my opinion
