As the title, anyone here got experience of leaving jobs part way through?

I've a client we've been doing some major work for that is pi$$ing me right off. Making all sorts of unreasonable demands and is now saying that the work he's been really happy with up to now is a load of crap and has taken us too long and cost him too much. All payments so far are up to date so I'm not out of pocket, but in his mind I'm being unreasonable, in my mind he's being unreasonable.

I'd rather do without the aggro so have essentially told him to find someone else to second fix the project as I'm no longer interested. Things is, if I bail, he's pretty much buggered as he'll have to find another spark to start in a weeks time which is highly unlikely.

That im not so much bothered with, but it's the bovine excrement he's likely to start spreading about me that I am.

I can go into real detail if anyone wants.

Any thoughts?

Good call Rommel - leave the ---- pots to get on with ----ing their pots while you move on to a more appreciative punter.

Exactly my thoughts.

At the end of the day, we're all bound to have customers that are unhappy with us in some respect. My way of thinking; I've hundreds of very satisfied customers and only a very small handful of unsatisfied customers. The proof is in the pudding. If I was in the wrong and the way I went about business was fundamentally flawed, the numbers would suggest differently.

hit, nail and head spring to mind.

Statistically I fall out with 1 client per year - which I feel is very good statistic!

we had a ---- pot foreman before, everyine had the last laugh the job went way over schedule and mistakes were made in the planning, wrong things bought etc.

people kept hush hush about it other than emailing the guy (when he went on holiday it turned out he didnt read emails)

we have always been in the fortunate position that we are working on there sites but directly for the client so they can't really tell us to do anything

Just an update.

I took Marvos advice and did a risk assessment. I've walked away.

Too much aggro for not enough money. I've bigger fish to fry. On to the next job.

You asked for opinions and I think you got a balanced view. Although your final decision is not the way that I advised you to handle the situation, I don't think you have made the wrong decision.

What you have done is made a carefully considered choice, and I respect that. I hope that the consequences of that decision fall in your favour.

Well done and good luck.

Voltz.

ALL my customers are ALWAYS happy with my work, they always offer me extra cash, always offer me bacon sandwiches at lunchtime and have never complained about a single thing I have ever done... ever!

Disgusted that you have had up to 5 unsatisfied customers in your 45+ years at work Mr DS!

I'm not surprised you've done so well.

You've had a whole forum of very competent folk holding your hand and guiding you every step of the way!!

How could you possibly fail??

There's a weeks worth of work for three plus a few grands worth of materials.

He's paid for all labour and materials so far and everything is up to date. I'm owed nothing and owe him nothing. Materials that have yet to be installed that he has already paid for have been left on site.

Hello

only read up to post three (this one) and know after the next two days' worth of posts, my response will be the same. The same as my knee jerk when I read the title.

screw them!!!!

So I’m not the only one to think that without the internet HHD would be floundering.

HHD if you think this is unfair, have a look through your started threads. They don’t make good reading.

So you're still at the point of doing odd jobs for family and friends etc I assume?
We all go through that while we are apprentices and just starting out.
Once you get some proper jobs in you'll soon experience the joys of the real world.
