how are you trying to measure the continuity? if you are measuring R1+R2 and getting O/C, then it might just be the cpc that's O/C.

If your live is broken somewhere the lights up to the break will work, after the break they won't because they're not getting any zappy juice.
If all the lights are working then it's pretty bloody obvious that neither live nor neutral is broken.
Or is that too much common sense?

how can I have no continuity in my live wire in my lighting circuit yet my lights still work

I suspect the guy needs humouring,so

OK I will play your silly games

It just seems like it's idiot's corner these days mate, how the hell can anyone expect to be taken seriously with a question like this. There has to be something supplying the shining things with zappy juice and something else taking what's left over away for recycling.

Aye, thats why i stepped back from the forum was just the same old shizzle ... but i'm back because i miss reading the stupid questions haha. It's like a drug this place.

On the bright side, i got called to a job on monday where a previous spark had refused to do work - i went and made the same refusal, the fella wanted a socket (a standad one he had bought from b&q along with the flex he had bought lol) right behind the taps on his bath so he could put a tv on the wall lol not even joking. So yeah, there are some sparks out there who are still doing things by the book.

thanks for all your abuse guys I was actually very serious with this question have spent hours trying to sort out this problem tested R1+R2 at furthest point in circuit all the way back to first light in circuit still no continuity in circuit then using wander lead found I had continuity in cpc and neutral but open circuit in live including switching .I thought this site would be helpful but if this is all I get I suppose I was better off wihout you thanks!

one possibility is that you are using meter on , say, a 20ohms range, but have a resistance in circuit higher than 20ohms. the meter will then read open circuit. try using a higher range.
