Hi, i'm new to these forums so i appologise if this is in the wrong section.

Basically i have been looking to getting into the electrical trade for 6 months now and i am finding it really difficult, i left school with 6 gcse's and i was told that i only need 3 gcse's to get into the raf and do ground electrical work but after ringing up i found out that one of these gcse's had to be english and unfortunatly i got a D in english (2 marks off a C!) So now i am stuck without an apprentaship or electrican course. I have rang around 3 colleges recently to see if they had any courses available but none of them are taking on new people, i have also went on a endless amount of sites to try and find an apprentaship but ive never had a reply to any of the apprentaship's i've applied to.

I'm currently doing my A levels studying ICT, Sociology and Business and it's going fairly well but i really don't thinks it's for me and i feel that becoming an electrician is the only thing i can see myself doing.

Anyway, I'm looking for someone who is willing to take on a apprentice in the Birmingham area, i live in Northfield so it would be great if you are near by but i am preapred to travel if i need to.

Thanks,
Rhys.

ICT (haven’t clue what that is) Sociology and Business. They’re going to go down a bundle with prospective employers. I’d be looking for Maths, Physics and another science subject.
English (grammar) is a good one to have under your belt but to my mind not essential. A spelling mistake in an application letter would consign it to the bin straight away.

I have 7 gcse's which consist of 5 c's, 1 A and a B :) but thank you.

p.s. R.E took my gcse english exam and i got a C, and i wouldn't want to work for someone who's so arrogant and rude :)

You may not like what tony has to say, but hes right. If somebody cant be bothered to proof read a speculative application, which is basically what this is as a lot of the fellas on here are employers, then that doesnt bode well for you. Dyslexia doesnt stop you using a spell checker, or a dictionary.

Bear in mind that it is really really tough for young blokes trying to get into this industry, and there is lots of competition. I bet most applications are binned for the simplest mistakes, just to reduce the pile into a manageable number.

You need to stand out, and offer what others cant. Even if you can make your sense of humour come across in a personal statement, it will look good, and the employer will take notice.
I reall hope you dont percieve my advise as rude or arrogant.

I bet you would work for him if he offered you an apprenticeship.

I was listening to a radio programme today, and it was all about why young British kids don't work - the "conclusion" was that a great deal are too fussy, to lazy to work their "way up" or want to win X factor. So much for Great Britain.
