Hi,

I have just been and looked at a house for my mate, he has a earth rod in his front garden which has a 4mm cable from it to the mains board. OBV this is too small..

What are the solutions as this rod is no longer accessible - he paved over it >,<

I was thinking maybe putting a new ROD under the mains board under the floor boards, BUT i read abit about hitting water mains and gas mains how do you know were the water or gas mains are!..

Also is there any other solution? Get Electric Board in or anything

Cheers All

You could ring to see if a PME conversion is available but if not, select your new rod position and dig down a way to see if there are any incoming services. If not grab yourself a couple of coupleable 5/8 rods and start whacking.

Why is it obvious that the 4 mm isn't man enough for the job?

Have you checked to see if it is actually too small?

Do you own the equipment to check the Earth Rod and do you know how to use it...with respect, you should utilise that knowledge and equipment before coming on here and asking people these questions. if you posts that question AFTER doing the checks and posting the results with your question, and your simply checking to see if your thinking is correct, then that is fine, but it's a bit rich expecting others to think for you.

Bear in mind even if you install a new earth rod you will need to check it is compliant and you have a satisfactory result...just hammering one into the ground, attaching a cable and slapping yourself on the thigh as Job done is not acceptable.
