Got a job interview tomorrow for a hospital maintenance electrician. Just wondering roughly what the job will entail if anyone has done a similar job. So I have half a idea as to what will be expected of me and can have a think bout the sort of technical questions that might be aimed at me. I have no experience whatsoever of been a maintenence electrician just installations so any heads up would be appreciated cheers

my mate is a hospital maintenance electrician.always has been.did his apprenticeship there and just stayed in coz it was nice n easy and pays not bad money.
he mainly does bullpoo jobs like the others have mentioned, and occasionally had to think. suits him as he's a dumbass anyway! :p
earns a bit more by being on call too.

when I asked him what this entails, he just said if a lamp blows, or an alarm goes off, I go n sort it. seems like a cushty job tbh

Cheers dan it does seem like a easy job but I prefer to be challanged. The money offered is ok but not fantastic between 19760 and 22800 with 9.5% on call bonus. This is slightly less then what I am currently earning but I am due a payrise at my current job.

My main hope from the job is to expand my working experiance into a maintenence role.

If what i'm seeing here is correct, then god help anyone unfortunate enough to be a patient in the UK these days!!! lol!!

One thing i DO know about, and that's Hospitals!! The amount of plant and specialised electrical installations that go into hospital installations, will require someone that has a far better than average understanding than your normal installation electrician. Being able to change tubes, will be the very least of your worries!!

I was at a hospital the other week with my missus and the amount of broken accessories I saw was shocking. Sockets mainly, obviously been bashed into with beds, trolleys etc. So, the maintenance spark must be either too busy or too lazy to get them replaced!

I would hope he was too busy but that doesnt say much about the state of the rest of the electrics in the hospital.
