Making off SWA

Whats your preferred way? What you thinks easier? Any useful tools made for terminating it?

My way is to score with a junior.
Then when making off the gland I like to use an adjustable with slip joint pliers.
Then when stripping the inner to reveal the conductors, I use bending and a sharp blade.

Just a question on what tools and tricks you guys use to terminate it.

Gland in the enclosure first up to 35mm after that gland on the cable first! Tried to do a 120 4 core with the gland in the enclosure first once. Stabbed myself right through my finger with one of the steel cores. Always ring the inner sheath as It looks horrible when its all miss matched and rough!

you use the snips to ring the inner serving...never a knive.....
for the obvious reasons...

I always use the removed outer sheath to push back into the shroud to know where to cut to for a nice flush fit.

Up to and with 35 I fix the gland a lock ring to the enclosure first then bring the cable in after and tighten up. Anything bigger its gland on the cable then locking last. Easy

Just find it easier this way.

i'd say it was easier to gland first with the heavier cable. 50mm and above is hard to get into a gland that's fixed, simply because it's heavy and difficult to bend in.

That's the way I'm getting at it tel just 35mm instead of 50mm sorry if my wording has confused anyone.

same with a lot of things....
its like the rings V radials=you use whats appropriate for the job at hand

singles V twin=you use whats appropriate for the job at hand

and gland first V gland after fixing gland to an enclosure=you use whats appropriate for the job at hand

well , tricks ive used with cable jointing include ,

warming the resin pack on a radiator or van windscreen heater , it pours better warm & sets faster.

scoring the outer pvc with a hacksaw blade at the ends of the joint provides a rough surface that makes a better waterproof seal.

fold over the steel wires back over the outer pvc when you fit the compression spring , stops the ends of the wires digging into the inner sheathing.

simple end to end cable joints are easy , 3 phase T joints with line taps take alot more skill.
