Anyone have any good or bad to say about this tester?

I am in the market for new MFT, but happened to be looking for a leakage tester just now. I, didn't realise that it was also incorporated into the MFT, with a tool of course.

Seems like a bargain to me, CEF are selling for around 900 incl VAT.

Doesn't seem to do EV, nor electrode though, when comparing against the MFT1741+which i am also looking at.

The Metrel does earth leakage, EV and TT testing. It is however about £2500. People are raving about the TIS though.

The spec says "CAT III 240V, Max 415V between inputs" which seems a little low for comfort in case one happens on a 400/690V supply some day. Or even a 240-0-240V split phase on a farm?

As usual the communication protocol and interface are last century and the software capture is an insult. I really hate the fact that you pay something close to a grand for these machines and get download software that belongs on a sinclair zx1 or whatever it was. Disgraceful. We should have blue tooth downloading to any software of your choice straight into a certificate at the price. Rant over.
Oh hang on no it isn't. Then of course the recording of results is pants!

Agreed, this is the sort of thing you get from Fluke, but at least it downloads by blue tooth or USB:

Even though the above looks a bit amateurish it does self populate the Fluke software from the MFT and USB port, the Bluetooth function is only available on the 1664fc, the above results are from the Auto function on the 1664, would not go any further on the loop tests as it automatically detected plugged in appliance's, really quite clever, just wished it did not look like a DOS document.

As I’ve said before on previous threads, it’s always good to weigh up what your budget is, what what you need an MFT to do, and what sort of usage it’s going to get before going out and buying a Megger.

I saw his video on the TIS, i was not that impressed I have to say. But... It lead me onto the Metrel MFT.

I am really impressed, nice features for including max ZS readings for the breakers, multi voltage readings, Volt drop too, taking one measurement one end then move to the other end and test again.

Anyone got any experience of this tester, good or bad?

Also has anyone used the Metrel A 1018 earth leakage clamp with the M1352 MFT?

I didn't see any videos on line so cant see if it is up to much. If it is then that's one less tester to carry around. This and the standard current clamp come with the standard package for the M1352.

PS they also do a A 1019, standard current clamp. I called and checked, the tester does not do inrush though :-( Now that would be good!

The Fluke MFT will do variable ma test for RCD's goes down to 10ma so at 12ma and 1/2wave you have 6ma if that's what you need.

My fairly basic Dilog DL9110 provides 10mA a option for RCD testing.
