Hi everyone

Has anyone else had problems with MK domestic fuseboards i installed a 15 way and a 10 way yesterday and on both of them the MCB rail sags and twists when you have it fully loaded so it makes it almost impossible to put the cover on and all the mcbs are leaning to the right it looks bad and i can seem to put it right.

Any suggestions or advice ??????

Hi, unfortunately this is a sign of the times. They don't make 'em like they used to! I'm afraid it's a case of faffing about until it's as good as you can get it. And next time choose a different one.

As above^^^^^^

Exactly the same problem with the last one I fitted.

I also had a 6A MCB in the C.U. that was faulty.

Truley Awful!!!!

Agree also. I've long since stopped using MK CU's as I too think they have gone down hill. If I can I'll always fit Hager boards - get friendly with your wholesaler and hammer them down on price!

Not fitted a hagar , i use wylex seem problem free to me, cheep as chips to , seems strange that mk boards are so poor

Other than the calamity with the mcbs they are by far the best construction and appearance wise
I usually use MK and also find they are getting cheaper and poorer to suit, the cover is a battle and a half to get sited

I use Hager and Proteus

Hager is a better board but very big, where as Proteus looks better once installed but a cheaper unit.

There is no wining with these.

I have never used MK to be honest - I was warned away from them by several sparks saying they are better for sockets, etc instead of protection.

I've had the same problem with the covers (also door hinges break ) so have stopped using MK. Last week i installed an 8way and a 16way Schneider unit from Toolstation, both went in very easily and the covers are a dream to fit ( old Square D units ). Very reasonably priced as well ( 16 way is £80, 8 way is £65 including MCB's ).

I have to say, for the price, MK are not very good at all.

Like the OP, i fitted one a couple of years ago and to get the cover back on was a serious task.

Never again.

Im not even sure why they sag.

Never fitted a Proteus board but the older ones I see are ****e - spring loaded locking mechanisms that always have a habit of shooting half way across the room. Never seams much room inside for wiring either.

For the price of an MK board try Denmans Curve RCBO units. 14 ways, 8 RCBO's and £99.

This was the experience I had with Wylex a year ago - may have been a bad batch, but had real hassle with apparently slightly twisted covers - two in a row - and haven't used a Wylex since.

Although I mainly fit Hager, I've found the smaller MKs are great for small houses/flats. The SF deal has a 10-way with RCD, 8 MCBs and 2 RCBOs (6A and 40A) for £80. As really useful package, easy to fit and great price.

Was this one of the MK that come fully loaded from places like Toolstation and Screwfix?

Had the same issue with these one, the proper empty MK CUs that you fill yourself are fine.

My suggestion was to myself never to use the cheap versions ever again.

In the cheap versions there's no space for wiring either
