I understand you've had legal advice, but what were the circumstances; what were the speeding offences and what devices registered your speed?
Doesn't really matter now as previously explained.
The fist was an average speed section 79 in a 70 and the second was a fixed GATSO 81 in a 70. The complicating factor was this was in a van so not 70 but 60 as this was a section of the A1 that is not Motorway.
I was not aware of the difference in speed limit for a non car derived van, no excuse as I should have known.

The single continuois offence defence was very strong as it was on the same road with no junctions and only four minutes separating the two offences. The reason it was not persued is that the penalties the court could have applied could have resulted in a ban and it was too big a risk to take.

No real gripes in the end.

Ohh err, so you were doing 79 in a 60 & 81 in a 60. Eeeek.

I was just wondering if you were caught in a average speed section & static camera in virtually the same place. Another 5 mph, and it would of gone to caught, and you could of had your legal argument then :)

I think DVLA just apply the points to your licence, from a FPN or court scentence. Looks like a admin error. Be interesting what they say though, as they are the record keepers!

Your right foot is your speed limiter, along with the number one eye observing the speedometer.

Although mine did malfunction recently.
To be honest I had no idea about the reduced speed limit for a light goods vehicle and was on cruise control.

Genuinely no excuses and not trying to make any, my speedometer was showing just under 85 so was knowingly speeding even if the limit was 70.

It would be interesting to see what paper records DVLA keep once the database is updated.

Like I said I told my insurer to proceed under the assumption I have six points so either way I'm doing the right thing.

Will be an interesting conversation none the less.

Oh and as it's my van it would be my fleet and the set point would be set to whatever I wanted.

You got a letter saying 6 points..a letter. You need to write a letter in reply pointing out that the rest of the world says you only got 3 points, and when you get a reply to that, you copy both to the insurers...
believe me, that is the only way you can sort this out properly. Otherwise, you are driving on a wing and a prayer...the insurers will refuse to pay out if they find out that you had full knowledge of being convicted at 6 points...don't rely on the "recorded" conversations with the insurers...they will be "unable" to find the bit where you told them you should have 6 points, not 3.
before I retired earlier this year my daily job was involved with speeding motorists...and for those of you who ply the highways, be aware...if you speed on M74 in Scotland, you will not walk away with a fine if you are over 100mph...and if you are over 108 mph you are on a dangerous driving, so kiss goodbye to that licence for a while, and be happy if you escape a custodial sentence.
Just get that letter away! You know it makes sense...

An 100mph - who does that? You’d have gone back to the future 12mph ago which would mean . . . . Oh never mind!
Good luck with it all - I was ‘plumping’ for keeping your gob shut as it is whats written on your licence when you give over your code to the insurers BUT if it did come back to bite you then you’d be kicking yourself. So between biting and kicking - as @Pete999 says ‘honesty is the best policy’!

do you not use a sat nav, to show the speeds 1,000 per hour then!

That's being honest, even if being a bit dumb. With a cruise control set above 70? Let us know what DVLA say you've been naughty about?

I errrh, cough had to attend a speed awareness course recently. Not cheap but saves points on your licence etc.

Whilst most of the information given was obvious, you are shown a vid at first, to demonstrate the incremental braking distance at common speeds. At 30mph for example, braking distance is approx. 45 feet. At 34mph it is another 13 feet (figures from brakingdistances.com), the length of a standard car . Which doesn't seem a lot more, until the video shows a car doing an emergency stop at 30mph, cut out of a pedestrian placed at stopping point. Then the exercise carried out again at the slightly higher speed. A new cardboard cut out was required.

The point they were trying to make, was a slight increase of the posted speed limit can have disproportion effect.

As the speed increases, the greater the braking distance, obvious I know. At 81mph, the increase from 70 is 83 feet, the length of approx. two buses.

Tell the insurers 6 points write to the DVLA to clarify how many points you have on your license and what they are for. If they come back in writing confirming you only have 3 points then you phone the insurers up and update them.

In the process of doing just that.
