New build outside light

Hi, is it a requirement to run an earth wire to outside light(although its double insulated) or is it probably just best practice ? I was replacing my son,s existing outside light on a new build house with a pir security light but found there was no earth to his existing light. Thanks

Would you use an OCPD for fault protection on a cable?

I had thought an MCB was an OCPD that was used for fault protection (via loop impedance) - so, yes I thought 543.6.1 applied.
Is it your view MCB do not provide fault protection?

Certainly not in a domestic setting these days.

the equipment may not need a cpc, but the cable to it does.

The cable doesn't require a cpc (otherwise singles or two core cables would be prohibited). The point in wiring (i.e. the accessory) does though to comply with BS7671:2018.

Because it is confusing to the O.P. and will give up and not return.
This just goes to show the mentality of same (not all) house bashers (new development homes) instead of parking the CPC in a terminal block, Wago etc. cut it off as it is the easiest and quickest option.
