Hi all.

Im new on here so please bare with.

Changed a cu the other day and it failed on one dis circuit to the garage and lack of isolator's in kitchen and bathroom.
Now ive always had the client agree on remedial works so have never had this problem before!
He doesnt want to spend anymore money as the cu was a fight but was forced to as it was a mess!
What cert should i give?

an EI cert but with no time untill next inspection covered, and write the rest in comments box?

a friend of mine told me to not notify it and give a PIR failure instead

Im not too sure on the PIR!?

Any help would be great

The old cu was a split load but not rcd protected.
for some reason the 2nd side of the board was powered off an rcbo off the 1st side (guess the 2nd main switch was broken).
also all the neutrals were stuffed in a chock block.
oh and this rcbo was tripping so i told him he needed a new board with full inspection.
now all his power has been restored and you know what some people are like (they see its all working so why spend any more money)

Did you not consider doing an EICR prior to unit change? Then you could have coded all the non-conformities and quoted accordingly!

db2 in garage is run in 2.5 3c swa with a million sockets and light etc also the mains swith on db2 is non existent and big hoes in sides etc.
no fan iso in bathroom
no iso for integral fridge
cooker (GAS FAN ASSISTED) is run in 6mm to a sw fused spur where it is down graded to 13amp with 1.5 t&e to socket for spark. tried putting a 5amp in instead but as soon as the cooker is played with it pops the fuse.

Couldn't you have found out why the rcbo was tripping instead of telling him he needed a new board?

Wish i had never got involved in this job to be honest but you live and learn i guess!
Most of my customers would be happy knowing their house is safe but others just like to scrape by!
He knew the house was dodgy and thats why we agreed to do a cu change and test to check for other hidden surprises.

But how exactly has changing a like for like board made the install safer.. How did this work come about???

Have you been asked to conduct a EICR or what??

The rcbo had melted out and wouldnt reset! as it had been running half the house for quite some time! it was only 32a.
He wanted his power back and there were no other spare ways available to get him going again as most of the circuits were doubled up anyway. I dont think i would of found a mains switch for a board that old.

You still haven't said why the garage circuit failed or what it failed?and i fail to see a lack of isolators for the fan and fridge as unsafe and dodgey
