Discuss New consumer installed but failed inspection in the Periodic Inspection Reporting & Certification area at ElectriciansForums.net

Excuse me??

What would you have done then?

i would have carried out a periodic inspection FIRST!! FFS.

instead of just changing the CU and then standing around scratching my arse cos im still left with a bag of crap and a failed inspection.
and ive a funny feeling youre unlikely to be an expert on testing judging by the slack arsed text speak.
consider this idiotic thread well and truely trashed.
;-)

The part that you say you couldn't get as it was to old

MK LN5500 100a

But like i said they had no power to half their house (including heating) so for a quicker solution to getting their power back on i suggested a new board so it meets current reg's etc and to try and make some sort of sense of the mess in the board that the last bloke left.

I think the OP is mad.

Failing a CU change cert because of no isolation on fans and things.

Some muppets install new like this these days.

And don't you have a caveat on your estimates/quotes to cover unexpected faults and remedial work??

So you insist on every install to comply with the regs... Buy id hate to see the bill for when poor dorris want a new light fitting however the install was wired as per 16th edition. Do you insist its brough up to 17th edition in order to change the light???

As above what the hell has no isolator on Fans / Fridge got to do with anything.. Ok maybe it does not comply but hey we cant insist on every install to be up to the currant regulations.. If this was the case then boy id be rich..

This sounds like a case of way to little experience.. I mean come on here and ask advice fair enough but the remedial action you have done in order to get the install working is the most expensive option possible and no wonder the gut did not want to pay any more.. This could have been avoided.. This why you are not getting the warm response you would of liked

I appreciate what your saying. I couldn't see any other way of getting this family's power back on! not without adjusting too much and leaving myself liable if the place went up!!
Maybe i could have told them to wait 3 days to get a new mains switch but like i said above someone had already removed from the mains switch for a reason?
I have been on my own for about a year and a half now and have never claimed to know it all! If i did i wouldn't been one here now.

That fair enough, but you seem to be contradicting yourself mate. You say its a call out then its a EICR. If its a call out how do you become responsible for the whole install? If it a EICR then that's a different matter however even then you just code and give the report to the customer.. Mind you I'd insist on code 1's being sorted.

It was originally a call out which is when i found the faulty rcbo.
I suggested it needed a new consumer unit as the other was in poor condition and faulty.
He agreed so i do a cu change and test of circuits where i find the other problems.
So how long would you give on a new board? cert time?
So you say i should just report all the defects on my certificate but still pass as its just the board i'm passing?

Not on a EIC no. But as you have changed the unit now this has to be completed. But you say you have issued a pir these are two separate things bud.

As for future reference.. Get over the fact every install needs to comply with 17th edition and spend time testing before agreeing to change a Cu. I tend to do a soft IR test 250v n-cpc, shared nutural and quick visual. If there Is anything suspect then test more. There's nothing worse than changing a unit and finding loads of faults that are going to take time to resolve. It's a pain a) to you and the customer never want to pay for additional remedial work.

You say poor condition, what code would you give it and why?
