Just went next door round to my neighbour to help him him out with electrical issue. He changed a fuse to a 2 way lighting circuit and now the light only works in one position. I can only assume he has put the wrong fuse in?

I assume he had had to change the fuse when it fused ?When he tried to change a two switch with one from the big orange shed, but just forgot to mention it ? If that's not the case, sorry - but why did he change the fuse ?

Re: New fuse in a 2 way lighting circuit and now light only works in one S/W positio

Thanks mate. I never asked him I just assumed that's what he meant but I felt silly I didn't know the answer. The thing is where would you change the fuse otherwise? I instantly thought he meant the S/W itself. Oh I don't know I just wanted to know how to diagnose it give the fella some advise. I did say to him he should get someone qualified in as i didn't want to be scrapping him off walls. lol

When ever I see posts proporting to be about "friend" or "neighbour" I tend to think its the OP that is in a mess!

Re: New fuse in a 2 way lighting circuit and now light only works in one S/W positio

Try putting the fuse in the other way up and see if the light then works only in the other position. I suspect, in order to save a few pennies, your neighbour has bought a unidirectional fuse. Do the job properly and put a bidirectional one in. If you're feeling particularly flush, an omnidirectional gas fuse would be the best bet, allowing conversion to 3 way switching with optional cold fusion in the future. I'm off out to feed my unicorn now, so I'll see how you got on when I get back.

And no knowledge either.

Give up.

lol I never said I was mate. I had a problem with a socket and was just talking to my neighbour about it when he told me about his two way fault. I've got a Lv 3 cert but alas no experience but he asked me about it and i couldn't give him answer.

I walked out with full distinctions in all my units and practicals mate over the three years I was college mate but I chose to keep my dads business going. So thanks for the help.

Re: New fuse in a 2 way lighting circuit and now light only works in one S/W positio

Hi, it is possible that due to a lamp blowing the fault current has"welded" the connections together which would possibly result in the circuit only switching fron one position.

just a thought.

and you cannot think of an answer to this problem !!!

Re: New fuse in a 2 way lighting circuit and now light only works in one S/W positio

I cant mate not really. If one light is only working I can only think its the connections but he said he changed the fuse and that's what is confusing me.
