Just went next door round to my neighbour to help him him out with electrical issue. He changed a fuse to a 2 way lighting circuit and now the light only works in one position. I can only assume he has put the wrong fuse in?

Re: New fuse in a 2 way lighting circuit and now light only works in one S/W positio

A earth fault would cause the fuse to blow, it may then of blown the earth fault clear, leaving a break in the cct

Re: New fuse in a 2 way lighting circuit and now light only works in one S/W positio

Hi, it is possible that due to a lamp blowing the fault current has"welded" the connections together which would possibly result in the circuit only switching fron one position.

just a thought.

Has everyone been too busy pee taking to spot that the very likely answer has already been posted?

Re: New fuse in a 2 way lighting circuit and now light only works in one S/W positio

lol I'm not fibbing and your just speculating like I'am but the difference is I'm not giving you a hard time about it. I did my courses a few years ago now mate and been doinga different trade since then. They has been a economic crash you know mate and we didn't all get apprenticeships like some do from those they know.
Actually why I'm at it. I remember when I was there the class used to be fall of other kids who just messed about and didn't do much study. They just disrupted the class and were just happy to get passes because they had someone they know to give em a job in a field that can earn some good money.

Jesus i was only enquiring about a light.

Re: New fuse in a 2 way lighting circuit and now light only works in one S/W positio

If one light is only working I can only think its the connections but he said he changed the fuse and that's what is confusing me.

This would suggest you mean there are 2 lights controlled by one switch and only 1 light is working.
In the title it says 2 way lighting circuit, which everybody has assumed to mean a lighting circuit with 2 way switching.

Which of the above 2 descriptions applies to the said neighbour?

Re: New fuse in a 2 way lighting circuit and now light only works in one S/W positio

A strapper popped out of one of the switches. Touched the cpc or back box. Fuse blows and fault clears. Replace fuse, light doesn't switch correctly.

Why couldn't the person posting this question think of this answer lol

Re: New fuse in a 2 way lighting circuit and now light only works in one S/W positio

That sounds about right but when you say strapper I just think of metal or PVC conduit. Oh I don't know I'll wait till the guys gets the electrician round and see what he says.

Thanks for the reply

I walked out with full distinctions in all my units and practicals mate over the three years I was college mate but I chose to keep my dads business going. So thanks for the help.

I have a 25mtr Breast stroke badge, but that doesnt make me Jaques Cousteau.

Re: New fuse in a 2 way lighting circuit and now light only works in one S/W positio

LOL i never said I was electrician !! I know you need actually do the work to gain practical experience that's why you need to do the NVQ to get you jib registered. Paper work isn't worth nothing unless you have the experience to accompany it. Which why people have trouble getting employed.

Re: New fuse in a 2 way lighting circuit and now light only works in one S/W positio

It's what I remember from college when installing a 2 way lighting circuit in a pvc conduit in lesson and I had something similar in metal conduit 20mm for my practcal test (we had other circuits as well). I remember having to pull them trough with nylon draw string.

Jesus I have forgotten a lot. I need to dig out my practical folder and stick a few examples up on the wall :/

Re: New fuse in a 2 way lighting circuit and now light only works in one S/W positio

The subtle point im making is just because i have quals in swimming does not make me a great swimmer. :nonod:

I know loads of sparks who dont have quals and are fantastic sparks :eek:mg_smile:, very clever people but chose not to study. Then there are those ive worked with had degrees coming out of there ears, and cant pull a cable in :mad2:. But could do a 5000 word document telling you how to do it :computer:.

So this is why this forum gets very suspicious about people posting and all the sarcasm starts. This is why the experianced members of the forum are reluctant to help on such ambiguous posts.
