New job just got told i loose £20 less a day because my I'm just out of my time

got inducted at a new job today its an underground job in london

My agency they told me my rate when i got there and filled out all the forms i got pulled to the side by one of the companies supervisors doing the induction...because my Gold card was so fresh he asked me how long i have had it i told him 6 months he said I'm afraid your just an 'advanced mate' you will be dropped £20 a day on your rate

I'm absolutely gutted thats 100 pounds a week i'll be down just got a mortgage thats the last thing i need. after all the hard work i have done to get the gold card i am gutted i am not getting the rate.

I've been working as a mate since 1998 I've done my time

is this common practise with electrical firms a deduction when you just come out of your time?????

its made me feel worse tbh if i had of heard it was the norm i would've let it go ha ha

i have been competent for years but now i have the card i want the rate!!!!!!! ill post back on here my findings

Your first port of call here would be to ask other sparks if they had been given the "treatment" by this troll and get collective over it. They have spent time (and money) getting the right personell/competent persons (which I dont doubt you fall into this catagory) so they wont want to go through all that charades again....this is just a "hanger onner" looking for justification for him being there.....time to cut overheads methinks...

This bloke sounds like a white ranker to me. He needs taking somewhere quiet and have the livin g**** kicked out of him. You are qualified.......doesn't matter whether that was today or 40 years ago. Sounds like a bell end of a jobsworth who is trying to save his own bottyhole.

i will be bang on that tomorrow i told a couple fresh faced lads in the induction and asked them how long they have been qualified and they started stuttering and shaking so i guess they haven't had it over two years either but got lucky to not be asked.

OK what is right union to join throughout all my years I've never come in contact with a rep or been offered to join. but with this and tonnes of other things going on in this trade i think its time i got on board.

unite,you dont need to be part of a union company to join,well worth it these days,you would be able to ring an official as soon as you were told you were getting paid less and they would advise you the right course of action to take,

I worked for a company as a mate on the books a few years ago. They had the same attitude to their own apprentices. Once they passed out of their time, they went on an intermediate rate. The company's stance was 'you can't be an apprentice one day and a spark the next.'

Again, not saying it's right, but it does happen.
Hope you get the rate you deserve. But these days, 'you gotta ask yourself the question... has he fired 5 shots, or 6...?'

I posted this in another thread, although I didn't suffer this, a lot of people are of the opinion when a lot of apprentices come out of their time thats when they truly start to learn. If you are confident with all the tasks they will set you and you passed the agency interview speak with the Agency for starters.

i get paid a labourers rate at my firm because no money in the budget for payrises because of the recession and ive been doing an approved sparks job!!!! Ive recently started a mortgage aswell so im over a barrell too but what can you do? im well ****ed off makes me hate getting up for work everyday especially when i could just get some slag pregnant and get a free house and benefits

Well that became an "industry" in itself didn`t it....seen em hanging around the dole office in town....with pram in one hand and toddler/s in other..smoke hanging out of mouth....this is the face of milennium britain and it stinks.....

exactly mate and the funny thing is theyve always got money to go up the pub and for their ffags and beer so they can raise their scummy kids so it can happen aaaallll over again

Well I had the day off last week as there wasn`t eny work on so fair enough i thought.....go to the bank n stuff to sort things out (like we all do) and thought i`l go for a quick pint before home (this was about 1.00pm) so i gets in to the bar and there they are reading the form or trying to play pool....now, I know some of those guys and i can tell you now they havn`t done a days work in literally years....its a lifestyle but i don`t want to know it....at least one of em was/is a bricky....so i thinks to myself well a pint weighs about as much as a brick so if you can lift beer then whats your problem......
