This has probably been mentioned a lot but im sure you feel the same, the books cost too much and its pretty annoying that after bringing out the 17th theyve ammended it probably to squeeze more money out of us ÂŁ75!!! I only bought my red one in May for ÂŁ50!!!

Are the ammendments drastic? any pointers on the major changes in the ammended vesion?

and should we have to pay so much for them shouldnt they bring out a system that on proof of being a qualified spark to atleast get them cheaper??

I havent heard of any of the ammendments so im assuming that theyre not that great your thoughts?

isitnow,
Learn to live with what is basically CPD.
Also, there is a method of getting cheaper copies, joint he IET if you are sufficiently competent to do so, then keep your CPD up to date to keep your membership running.

sorry mate CPD? might seem silly asking what it is lol

IET membership is now over ÂŁ120, it seems like only a couple of years back it was under ÂŁ100.
Even when it was the IEE, i never really thought it was cost effective to be a member, especially when one year they took the renewal money twice.
Probablly better to buy the books from Amazon, or wait untill they're on Ebay.

Funny enough a week or so back I started a thread about what your asking. I was hoping that more would have been interested. I see loads of centres offering a 1 day "refresher" course for 200 odd pounds and thought we might have a go ourselves and try to post regs we find, and bring it to each others attention.

I'm lucky as I need to work with the book mostly everyday and have had to make a report to my bosses about the changes. Mainly for our type of work but it covered most areas.

I started the thread by posting a change to the fact that the regs have dropped the part about sockets and enclosures need fitting to the fabric of the building and opened for discussion and got about 3 replies lol

So I left as it didn't seem of interest. I've posted a few little bit's a pieces about now the regs advise we should not be pulling DNO fuses, and that the BS 1361 fuse as now been omitted, but there are quite a few more that will affect us.

Another is concerning TNC-S systems in construction sites and being able to use them, and quite a few of the special locations have revised their TNC-S wording

Yes, I would say that it is useful to keep up with how the DNOs want us to view their earthing arrangements.

And why SHOULD the Regs be available just to sparkies at a cheaper rate? What next car insurance? I agree in that at ÂŁ75 they are expensive BUT no more so than any of our other risings costs.

I went to an Elecsa information evening a couple of months back, before the book came out. Cost me nothing (the evening) and the guys ran through all the biggest changes. ECA members can pick up the book for ÂŁ60 (and get a free screwdriver).

The books are expensive due to the simple reason that they very costly to produce (editorially and printing) and pro-rata not many get sold. If you want to buy a book for ÂŁ6.99 go to WHSmiths.

Speaking of CPD - Would you want a doctor to operate on you having qualified 40 years ago and not done a days training since? Of course you wouldn't. Why should our profession be any different?

oh im sorry i didnt realise i started a thread about A book shall i just go to whsmiths and get A book and pretend its the ammended regs for 6.99 you clown

and a book is a book once its written you just print them im assuming that youre either involved with the book or sleep with it under your pillow i appreciate its not just an average book but if the geniuses who wrote the first one didnt have to ammend it so ***** soon i wouldnt be so bothered and to ask for that much money afterwards is a slap in the face

And if the iee had any sense and wanted proffessional electricians to keep up to standards and keep educated they wouldnt charge so much i wonder if theyve realised why many dont get sold hmmmmmm i wonder...
