The government have announced that all electricians working in domestic dwellings need to be qualified to nvq level 3 and have a jib card personally I think it's a great idea what's your thoughts and has anyone else herd the same

Have not heard anything M8, but certainely better than a pat testing course, a part p course and a 17th course which is the requirement now. The schemes will lose thousands of members if the case.

IMO the JIB used to be the level which all sparks respected and if they stop letting business leaders control them they may get back to that level again.

Totally agree jib card as a minimum should be asked to show it before carrying out any electrical work

Trouble with that is the experienced guys who don't own one will be unhappy.

I am not against your views at all, I totally agree with you, I am just saying cash jobs cannot be policed, ever, how can they be stopped? as for the scheme fees, you should not have to pay them, if you are a qualified spark and have certificates and experience and can prove it to the Local city council you should not be forced to pay any scheme, that is a different matter bud, the cash job situation will still be happening in hundred years time.

actually you do not have to be a member.
Local authorities are supposed to accept you if you can prove your qualifications and hold a register of people who meet the criteria.
The reality is that they are lazy and will not do this unless you argue with them about it. Often its easier to be a member of a scheme.
The schemes will not allow this to be put through as the number of people they will lose will be too great and they will lose money.

Or our fees will go up again!

I always thought you had to be working for a JIB registered company to get a JIB card
