The government have announced that all electricians working in domestic dwellings need to be qualified to nvq level 3 and have a jib card personally I think it's a great idea what's your thoughts and has anyone else herd the same

Trouble with that is the experienced guys who don't own one will be unhappy.

True. I reckon there are plenty of working guys with parts 1 and 2/ level 2 and 3 and years of experience that are just short of the full NVQ/apprenticeship requirement that will fall foul of this. It's a small price to pay to bring up the education and standards of the Electrical Trainee dominated domestic sector though.

Watch this space for the 5 week NVQ3 course ........

I have 236 1, 2, and C course along with 17th + 2391 plus umpteen years experience in dom/comm/ind (40/40/20) - Never worked for a JIB firm

Any new system would have to take into account people in my position otherwise that's too high a price - a sledge hammer to crack a nut!

I will admit my remark was a bit flippant, sorry for any offence caused. I feel for guys in your position which is why I posted in the first place.
I do however support this move as the domestic sector would really benefit from a minimum education level. The ideal situation, as you say, would be to take account of guys with your quals and experience. I can't see that a case by case approach will be taken if all this goes ahead though sadly.

Hawkmoon would get a JIB card in anycase with his qualifications, no trouble at all

Yeah you are probably right. I recall a mate once asking the JIB the quickest way to an electrician grade. He had no core qualifications but over a decade of experience. They recommended getting the 2391 and past references and they would have no qualms grading him.
I did think that things had tightened up in recent years though that excluded individual consideration.

Absolutely no offense taken Andy, just voicing my interests...as you were yours.

I got a fellow who worked for us an electricians JIB card by filling in his forms and signing that he had done good work for us for a number of years. He did have qualifications, but they were old (like mine, lol.) This was about two years ago.
