hi there

went to a customer today about replacing an exisiting shower that is broken. i asked where the consumer unit was located and to my surprise there was no actual cu or fuse box. each of the 5 circuits were supplied via individual switch fuses, including the shower.

now is this arrangement still acceptable/safe, i have never seen this in a domestic property before. if it is would it be possible to repace the shower sw fuse with a rcd/mcb shower enclosure and replace the shower.

or is a new cu a must for this customer ?

manythanks

I think the ban on fuses in the neutral conductor is mentioned in the Part P document as well so it's really really bad not just upsetting a guideline, a legal statute thingy as well. Oh no!

Regulation 314.4: Where an installation comprises more than one final circuit, each final circuit shall be connected to a separate way in a distribution board. The wiring of each final circuit shall be electrically separate from that of every other final circuit, so as to prevent the indirect energizing of a final circuit intended to be isolated."

Spin I have crossed axes with you before on the IET forums, you know as little as I did when I first started, and use cut and paste to answer questions. Bugs you I know but, at least you are a good troll.
That's odd, there's no one with the user name Racalc on the IET forum.
Are you that ashamed, that you have to hide behind multiple user names?
What are you known as on the Screwfix forum, Lucy?

Spinlondon is a wealth of information
How or where he acquires that information matters not,he answered the question with a reasonable reply as he usually does

Why do you bring personal insult to this forum that is generally free of such things
It spoils most peoples enjoyment and is not welcome
If there has been argument between yourselves elsewhere.why bring it here

Spin you will always be a ---, because I am a member and you are a guest will always vex you, you have no idea and will never, until you do a degree and finally be allowed to join and have some meaningful input. then you can put MIET after your name, like I do.
Until then just cut and paste your ansers.

I'm not that insecure that I need to put anything after my name.

With immature ways that you both show in these threads, it is with great satisfaction that I am not the same nationality as yourselves, apparently

You are behaving like naughty schoolboys who are giggling at their misdemeanours, why don't you grow some maturity and leave quietly and let the adults have their conversations

if they are from the 60s ASBESTOS may be an issue woven flash gaurds contain asbestos and due to age it will be in dust enough that if you pull fuse there will be a cloud of the crap billows out

Spin, I'm not so sure its such a good idea to let the whole world know your membership number. Cheers

Good advice JBL. Never post personal infomation like that on the open internet, it's asking for trouble.

Maybe the mods can remove it. He's proved his point now anyway, those two 'members' have been removed.
