No consumer unit ( circuits on individual sw fuses)

hi there

went to a customer today about replacing an exisiting shower that is broken. i asked where the consumer unit was located and to my surprise there was no actual cu or fuse box. each of the 5 circuits were supplied via individual switch fuses, including the shower.

now is this arrangement still acceptable/safe, i have never seen this in a domestic property before. if it is would it be possible to repace the shower sw fuse with a rcd/mcb shower enclosure and replace the shower.

or is a new cu a must for this customer ?

EXACTLY. That's what I thought at the time and I'm pleased I proved him wrong. He was a strange little man I seem to remember. Age doesn't or shouldn't affect your learning ability, as a long as you keep the old brain ticking over over the years and don't let it rot away by watching the likes of X Factor! One good thing of being in the electrical trade is that you've got to freshen up on a regular basis with the updates of the regulations!

The brain is like a muscle archy....the more you use it the better and stronger it gets.....which is why lazy beggers on benefits and not rising till lunch time are allways thick......:19:

Des, obviously don't know if you speak Welsh, but you and the rest of Wales are/should be proud of it as well.
I think I'm right in saying that all the Irish have to learn to Gaelic in school, good stuff but I can imagine some kids hating it.
We need to keep these cultural things going otherwise the the world's going to end up as a one homogenised American sess pool.

Have you ever read it? For some morbid curious reason I've always thought about reading it.

So true. It always amazes how quickly the 'masses' forget various balls ups and then get conned into voting for whoever by a bit of sweet talk at election time (or read it in the Murdoch press, argument with someone I know!)
