hi there

went to a customer today about replacing an exisiting shower that is broken. i asked where the consumer unit was located and to my surprise there was no actual cu or fuse box. each of the 5 circuits were supplied via individual switch fuses, including the shower.

now is this arrangement still acceptable/safe, i have never seen this in a domestic property before. if it is would it be possible to repace the shower sw fuse with a rcd/mcb shower enclosure and replace the shower.

or is a new cu a must for this customer ?

manythanks

He's proved his point now anyway, those two 'members' have been removed.

It always amazes me, the imagination that some of these guys have and the crap they come out with. Very few get the time scales and sequnceing right, when they start trying to impress with qual's and cert'sthey have acquired!! And of course, it was all so very easy for them!! Unfortunately, they then start opening there mouths in response to posts, and all becomes clear very quickly. ...lol!!!

..... to impress with qual's and cert'sthey have acquired!!

Now I've got my 'Arms' membership I suppose I could delete mine from my profile...:)

My degree didn't do me much good, got it when I was 36, loads of applications with zero response, beginning to suspect I was too old. Finally got a interview and the guy said 'We wouldn't even consider somone of your age...' Case proven. But it did get me into Instrumentation a year or so later, if I had my time again...

Your over the hill at 36 in the UK these day's??? What sort of positions were you applying for, if may i ask ??

This was 15 years ago! Only got a Desmond as well. Just fresh graduate jobs.

I thought then, and still do, is that employers want 21 year olds with zero experience so they can pay them a pitance and manipulate them to their needs. Probably think 'mature' grads expect more cash, don't learn as quick and maybe set in their ways a bit. Either that or I had a completely shister CV. When I applied for uni at 32 the entrance tutor wasn't that keen, saying that 'elder' students don't have same ability to learn as quick as the youngsters!. Proved that gentleman wrong.

Ah, Des, you're a Desmond I suppose.
Anyway, I assume you're welsh, with that dodgy language.
Just spent 2 weeks in the North West of Ireland and when they start talking in Gealic it's a bit disturbing (English paranoia).
Great place and lovely people though!

Yes,thats one weight I have to bear
I cant seem to understand how you worked that one out though Archy, the clue in the username may have given it away I suppose

well that tutor (i) was talking out of his AR$E and (ii) shouldn`t be trying to stifle people in that manner and as a consequence shouldn`t be acting as an "entrance" tutor. The human mind gets better and wiser with age and is better tuned to more complicated subjects than a youngsters........A degree isn`t for everybody though...i mean my mother`s an english graduate but said that i should just do what makes me happy so i decided to go sparkying. I dont need or want a degree but so many were sold on it by the last lot with the result of over saturation now. Many of these poor souls are flipping burgers and sweeping floors. Is this what the future of this country is reduced to doing just to earn a crust......

Whilst I am proud we have our own language, as do many other cultures and countries
The English may no longer rule the world, but the language certainly does you proud

Its No 1, and it leaves a mark on the world that can never ever be equalled, by any other contribution,or by any other country, now or in the future

What pride you can have in that

EXACTLY. That's what I thought at the time and I'm pleased I proved him wrong. He was a strange little man I seem to remember. Age doesn't or shouldn't affect your learning ability, as a long as you keep the old brain ticking over over the years and don't let it rot away by watching the likes of X Factor! One good thing of being in the electrical trade is that you've got to freshen up on a regular basis with the updates of the regulations! :)
