Hi all,

A customer wants me to replace a light-fitting and/or light switch for a metallic one, to a lighting circuit with no CPC.
Property must therefore be pre 1966 (ish).

Is this a definite NO-NO.
I would feel very uneasy about doing so.

Ta,
W1ll.

Can't believe you would consider metallic light switch with no earth, seriously have to worry about questions like this.

We are getting more and more of them. I just hope that its a 'brain freeze' moment from the OP and in a drunken stupor he thought it would be good to post the question...

I agree with #6, #7 & #8, its blindingly obvious you don't fit a metal class 1 fitting to it. You might find if that wiring is without a CPC, the rest of the property potentially is old and you never know, you might even get a rewire out of it at a push, or certainly some remedial work, but asking a question like this would give me concern as to your abilities to carry out a rewire. Sorry if that sounds rude.

I had a similar problem the other day after a EICR where 2 fluorescents were fitted and was explaining why they needed to be changed. Turns out there are websites that specialise in class 2 fittings, they seem to have a good range so maybe look for a similar fitting that is class 2?

Just throwing it out there.....you buy a class 1 fitting, as metallic as they come, and with it in the manufactures instructions it says 'DO NOT FIT A CPC NER NER'

Do you, or, don't you?

Or am i just being silly  i blame the missus, im waiting for my tea - bloody starvin.

I would say that the item wound not be CE approved if it had that in the manual
