Hi all,

Carrying out a periodic inspection at a domestic installation. Semi- detached house on a row of houses. I cannot for the life of me locate any sign of the earth electrode inspection chamber. Just wondering how you would number this? A 1,2,3 or a 4?

Thanks

You need to establish the property has a reliable and safe means of earthing. Can you visually trace the earth? What size is the main earth at CU?

Is Irish EICR coding different to mainland uk?

Hi Richy.

Thanks for the reply. I can't trace that cable as it disappears down behind the wall the DB is mounted on.
The main earth coming from suppliers cut out is 10sq.

Yes the coding is different, as we number it 1-4 in terms of the risk involved

you say there is a main earth from the supply cut-out. does that mean it's been upgraded to PME? what's the Ze?

have you tested this unknown earth cable? (earth loop)
Hi James,

No I haven't tested the cable. I'm going to have to return there on Monday. Incidentally, I checked the front of the houses next door and all along that row of houses and there's no sign of an earth rod. Couldn't see any in front or rear of the house I was inspecting either. Very odd

Assuming the installation is neutralised, I would give a 2 to an Earth electrode which could not be located as it is impossible to verify that it is correct (or even present). A simple test doesn't prove this.

Thanks Risteard. I had put it down as a 2, even though I wasn't sure if I was right in doing so. Good to hear you'd have done the same. Thanks for the reply
