no not really, i keep hearing about the all the savings im going to make, but to be honest my gas bill isnt massive. ÂŁ30 every month. Im always in credit as well. be it about 50 but credit. Cant see how im going to save anymore on that lol

Quoted 374 to replace thermosat and circiut board, if thats the problem. Boiler is ideal classic ff350, no idea how old was here when i moved in 8 years ago.

That boiler could be 16-18 years old imo I had one from new in my other house and to be honest it was a good boiler, even though it cost me a new gas valve and fan in the early years, but I was fortunate only paid for the parts, my brother is a gas engineer.

If you can get a fixed quote to have it repaired as above, then I would keep if going as long as you can because when I moved house mine was still going strong at 16 years old.

hi everyone, im new here, and looking for some advice on immersion.
My boiler packed up 2 weeks ago, and having problems trying to fix, sort, research a new one.
In the meantime I thought i could use the immersion for hot water.
It appears i dont have one.
I have a normal non condensing, none working boiler at the moment and im thinking of replacing like for like.

On my tank in the airing cupboard is what looks like the space for the immersion and looks like its been capped off.
No sign of a switch. The only switch in there is for the heating control panel/timer.

How hard and how expensive would it be to get one put in, just till i work out the boiler issue.

thanks in advance Lou

How about a Grant? (It's not the same as a "loan") https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=g...-8&oe=utf-8&gws_rd=cr&ei=PNzcVMTcE4WBUdGrgIAJ

Davesparks is right for a cheap option. From a heating engineers perspective, it should be possible for any competent person to get the boss out, with judicious use of WD40 and torch!!

What on earth would you want WD40 for? A decent penetrating lube like gt85 or plusgas maybe, but fish oil?

Aye, but .. I believe WD also make a decent penetrating oil as welll as the fish oil stuff ;)

[ElectriciansForums.net] No immersion heater

WD-40[SUB]®[/SUB] SPECIALIST[SUB]®[/SUB] RUST RELEASE PENETRANT SPRAY penetrates deep into crevices, threads and seams to break the bonds that hold stuck parts together.
Our penetrating lubricant also leaves behind a protective layer and helps prevent rust and corrosion from re-forming. Containing Blu Torch[SUB]™[/SUB] Technology, a proprietary blend of synthetic additives, our rust remover spray quickly goes to work on rusted nuts, bolts, threads, locks and chains. WD-40 Specialist Rust Release Penetrant Spray frees rusted parts 50% faster than the leading competitor. It is 50-state VOC compliant and safe to use on plastics, rubber and metal.

id weigh up the cost of an immersion tank + costs of fitting it etc. Then i would weigh up the costs of actually repairing the boiler itself. You might be wise to get your boiler insured by british gas etc as they only make you pay for parts i think.

Didn't realise WD40 did fish oil! Thought the whole point of this thread was to get a temporary supply of hot water, while decisions were made about boiler. Therefore an immersion, cable and plug seems eminently sensible compared with thousands for new boiler :)
