Really? If I pay a cheque in today it shows straight away!
With my bank, Nat West, it shows the next working day but is not cleared for 3 working days.

Mine is probably the same, but as I keep a decent "float" in my business account so its not something I worry about....
i keep about a grand readily available with more available within 5mins if i need it and have a decent internet signal
Nor me Murdoch, it's the 'going to the bank' part of it that makes me think that I might , just might, get one of these terminals.
I haven't actually got one.
If I did get one it would probably be Paypall as it shows in your account straight away. But I assume there's a few days delay

I don't care how people pay me, as long as they pay me.
Not got any real stats but I suspect about 70% is BACs, about 25% is cheques and the remaining 5% is cash

My bank charge me more to wander into their bank, and use their flippin paying in machine for cheques & cash than BACS. Least I can have the smugness and push past the private account plebs!

My bank charge a lot to pay in cash - so I pay it for free into my private account, then BACs it to my business account - the staff know I do this and they don't care. I only pay cash in if I have a large payment, otherwise it goes in my cash tin and gets spent on fuel, and at wholesalers where I don't use credit!
I just don't like the idea. I would prefer that my customers are happy and have a while to give any feedback or a change of, say, LED type. To me, waving a machine under their noses as soon as you have put your tools away is a bit too much like grabbing the cash and legging it down the road. I get loads of cheques, they are a pain but it will be a long time before they are not used, and if you have got one you might as well have 10.
What a performance, ummph. Don't get me started on 'free' private accounts!

I can send a BACs from my private account in less than a minute - and its better than paying any more to the bank!
Maybe you don't do call outs Sparks. You get a call from someone whose light is not working, you go there and do a few tests then flick up an mcb for example. So just a call out charge. Then, so that you can be sure that the customer is ' happy and has a while to give any feedback' You go home, eventually raise an invoice, post the invoice, wait for a cheque to arrive, then go to the bank and pay it in.
Whose waving machines under noses? not me. I'm just mulling over the idea of having a terminal in my van as an alternative method of payment when I do a call out.
I get very few cheques, I'm surprised you do. Just looked back over my last 2 months banking, there's been 24 payments in, the smallest amount being £ 42.00. All paid by bank transfers.
I do however have a cheque in my van for £84.00 which has been there since Friday.
