I went for a metal clad BG board and all RCBO setup from Electric fix and was very impressed with the quality and price. £127 all in, delivered to my door as well. Which was nice.

Interpret 'readily accessible' for me then, because I don't count it as a live part being 'readily accessible' if you have to go 8 feet up to the top of a consumer unit then poke a metal accessory smaller than the width of a finger 4 inches down into an enclosure and hope to find a live part. Prikc.

Can it have something placed on it which could enter the CU? In this case, of course it could. Why are you name-calling people who are simply stating the regs?
I am very disappointed....

Not really guitarist. I respect you, but the name-calling came first. I am just defending myself, using the regs. Parts 'not readily accessible' so only have to meet the requirements of IP2x. Prove me wrong.

Voltz mate....
we are not having a go at you...
far from it....i know you are a knowlegable man....but it doesn`t comply with IP as it stands.....so be nice please, go back...get some trunking to cover the finals (this will also cover entrys made)...
it wont take long, will look neater and will also ensure conformance....

is the 'what if' brigade out tonight? Same ones who cry 'foul' about the 'elf and safety' madness. Common sense calls, come on folks, this was just a thread about really good 'budget' consumer units.

If you all wanna take this to another level then I can tell you that for all your protests about the state of the industry/economy/ we should all stick together, it's a pretty poor show of it when u all club together to **** on a good sparks install.

except we wern`t....and you know how i can get sometimes with it all....
you cant rely on placing out of reach in domestic as its unskilled/uninstructed persons not under supervision isn`t it mate....

I stand by my interpretation of the regs. I'll bet my house that any one of you couldn't go around to that install and get anything into that board without steps AND small wires, and by then, you will have exceeded the requirements of 'readily accessible'.

You showed us an install which looked pretty good to me. I merely asked if the cables entered through the back to comply with regs, as any CU is readily accessible to the domestic brigade who use any flat surface to store "bits and bobs". Something along the lines of "yeah, trunking would be a good idea", in response to an earlier suggestion would have made me give you a thumbs-up, but instead it gets all unnecessary...

agreed G....its a good looking piece of electrical installation work clearly carried out by a competant person...
just a few bits missing.....like i says...put an hour on it....job finished.

Guitarist, with respect, the cables don't have to enter the back as you have suggested. I was merely agreeing for a purely aesthetic perspective, but as I have stated, having looked back through BS7671, my interpretation (as that is all we do with the wording of a non-statutory document) is as I have stated. And that is, as it is, in my opinion, not 'readily accessible', then it needs only meet IP2X.

You can all disagree with me all you want, but I am the designer and installer, and I WILL stand before the judge and tell him, 'your honour - this is what I deemed to be satisfactory in the circumstances, in my position as competent person.'

regards.
