outdoor heater circuit with pir....

Hi have joined here to get some advice as I've an outdoor heater to fit, and am unsure of the best way to do it.

the circuit would be as follows:-

need to know the best way to do it, as there seems to be alot of single cable runs and the only way I've come up with is a bit of a mess

think this makes sense, however like I said would you just use one of the cores in a twin core and earth need all the help I can get....

If you're 'unsure', you really shouldn't mess about with it, especially as it's outside!

Call a local qualified electrician to complete the work safely for you!
 
appreciate what your saying but Its not that complicated I'm sure, all the equipment is IP65 including all the heaters and junction boxes and switches, all I'm after is the correct way to wire it, otherwise I'll just do it as I see as best, but I'd prefer an opinion if I could

The circuit will need to be protected by a 30mA RCD, wired in SWA if in a location which may subject the cable to mechanical damage!

Why the pir and what are the heaters for?
 
want it so you can turn the whole system off when your not using it, and when it is in use I want to be able to alternate between 1 and 2 heaters depending on conditions

I have an outdoor RCD Already in place and the cable too the start of the system from it will be armoured and buried in accordance with regs, its just the wiring side that I need advice on, as I just feel theres too many single wire runs involved, but might be the only way of doing it........the heaters are for a pagoda/smoking area, there both 1.5kw heaters and its a 3kw pir

I did, but it wouldn't suit the specific purpose, pir is much better suited to the requirements.....
 
From the switch, take the feed to the pir then to the heater. Obviously when the switch is in the 'on' position, the pir will act as the switch, by turning off the switch simply deactivates the pir and the heater will remain inactive until the switch is turned back on again.

Any good?

Yeah I've done that plus added another switch to turn on the second heater if needed, more concerned with only using one core between terminals but cant see a way round it without the use of junction boxes??
 
Hmmm

I think I'd be tempted to use the pir to switch a contactor rather than fully load the pir itself.

One cable from the contactor to each heater and one cable to the pir. Install switches inbetween the outgoing loads of the contactor and each heater for 1 or 2 heater selection.
 
hi thanks for the reply, I havent used contactors before but I'm guessing that they use a switch, in this case the pir to open the switch inside the contactor, like a relay hence taking all the load from the pir?? screwfix do this 240v contactor

would this be suitable in a IP65 box.....

hence i'd end up with....power to an initial switch to turn the whole system on/off, then on too the contactor, which would have the pir attached to action it, then you'd have the feed continue too a 2 gang switch so you could turn lamp 1, lamp 2 or both.....how am I doing so far lol
