Hi
Ackbarthestar, quick q (feeling dense this arvo)- why do you say there is no guarantee it would trip...? Do you mean because statistically there are always about 3% of RCDs that dont work? Cant see what other reason...am I bein dopey like???

If there is no guaranteed earth return path, such as a cpc, then there will not be a guaranteed disconnection under earth fault conditions via a RCD.

But due to the earthiness of certain types of installations there maybe the possibility of a disconnection.

Also, if you grab hold of a live conductor it may disconnect due to your earthiness (basic protection or direct contact). But neither can or should be guaranteed or relied upon.

I think the most imporant consideration is the IP rating, and having it on the light circuit nearest the lamps final position is only common sense mine is on the same circuit as the hall like most folks are, running a seperate circuit from the CU thro a switch then to the lamp ? well ok if it,s yours if it's a customers well again if you can get away with it, outside the EPZ dont think so unless it halfway up the drive
